Cacciatore, the bow Norm built me this Spring was the one who was "up to bat". Good hunting in Colorado. I have two friends who down there hunting. One is hunting the San Juan Mts.

Just remembered another exciting encounter. One morning we set up opposite a ridge line that we had been on the previous day. There was a lot of fresh sign up there. So we started our "herd talk"...instantly there is a bull bellowing his call at us from over there. I then hear him running down off the ridge and into the bottoms. Then he hits the stream and starts wallowing and kicking rocks around....oh boy! Then nothing. Pretty soon I faintly hear sticks breaking...he's coming in! Then the deflating feeling as the morning winds swirl and hit you on the neck. Never did see him or hear from him again that day. He was definitely hot to go until that happened.

Good luck over here, Dave.  I got skunked in Idaho, with the exception of pin-wheeling a blue grouse out of the top of a fir tree.

I have no idea what I'll be doing Saturday.  I heard there's a plethora of cougar up Camp Creek.  Might try to call one in...

Jerry, I'd like to talk with you about Idaho sometime. Think I'm done for this year. I'm taking the grandkids fishing! Ever since they cleaned up the driftboat they've been asking when are we going! haha

Sorry the hunt had to end prematurely.  At least you had some excitement.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

I just got back from my first elk hunt. We were  hunting at elevation 10,500 to 11,000'+.  We are from Louisiana at elev. 31 and can attest to minimal oxygen requirments.  We hunted hard, did reasonably well, but lord help us if we would have killed. lol

Scenery was worth the effort!

We met a couple of guys who lived about 1 hr. from where we were hunting. They had the spike/cow tag. They generously offered to come back up anytime we got a bull down and would pack it out with their horses! They left us with their phone numbers and the reassurance that if we did kill a bull down in the deepest nastiest canyon we would have help with getting it out. That really broadened our hunting area.

Any time, Dave. Shoot, by Saturday I might have a grandkid of my own.  :-) She's due any day now.

Hi David,
What great pictures !  The meat pole might be a little light but from what I see you had a great time.  I would like to have come along and shared the camp with you guys, some other time I hope. We bought a house here finally so things have been a little chaotic with all the moving so I hope to have things settled down in a month or so then take to the woods.  Thank you for sharing and I hope to see more, all the best, Joe

Congratulations Jerry! Grandkids are the rewards for all the work you had raising your kids! haha

Joe, you're welcome anytime in our camp. Congrats on the house!
