One Piece or Take Down for Bicycle Hunting?

Hello, Bringing my Bicycle with me to hunt Deer this fall and am wondering if you bike hunters do for carrying your bow. Thanks in Advance

i just have a hanger mounted on the handle bars. i can carry either one piece or takedowns on it, and i also use a dawgware sidequiver, so no issue with bow quiver hang ups on the hanger.

I let the bow's grip section rest on the centerbar of the bike (centerbar is padded) and simply hook the string with each of my thumbs. The bow lays horizontal and hooking the string like this doesn't really bother my hold on the handlebars, or affect steering the bike. If I happen to get into a 'tumble' situation (hasn't happened yet...knock on wood) the bow can be easily jettisoned. Has worked well so far.

A short bow helps with this approach. I generally use a 58" one-piece longbow.

Just remember, when hunting bicycles it's important to pick a spot just behind the front fork. It's not enough to shoot at the wheel, you have to pick out a single spoke.

In all seriousness, make sure you've got a case for your bow that makes this convenient. in ontario all bows have to be in a case when out before and after dark. Not sure if this is true everywhere, you may have to check the regs.

I have ridden many hundreds of miles on logging roads like this. The chair on the back was for sitting on water holes with natural blinds. The bow rides well when the straps are in place. We usually ride in to where we want to start hunting and hoof it from there. The bike speeds up the process. I always have a head lamp for early and late in my pack. I love it for areas that are closed to motorized vehicles.

I primarily shoot take-downs, no matter what. But when I go out on my mountain bike, I leave the bow put together. That being said, this year I may start taking it down, since I am shooting a BW longbow that comes apart and goes back together in seconds.

I used to ride with a setup like 'elknutz' has above, but was nervous about what could happen to my bow if I ever wiped out. (I ride both before and after daylight hours, with a light, quite a bit when hunting.) So I sewed some elastic straps to carry my bow on my hunting backpack. It works great!

The Great Northern Jacknife option works very very well and can be slid in and out of a backpack very quickly and assembled just as quickly.

I mount mine same as elknuts, works great and you can get your bow out quickly if you see a critter to chase rather than having it strapped to your pack or broken down in pieces and put away.

Also when biking back to camp at night it is good to have a light on your bike and a head lamp, makes it much safer to see more of the road and things in it.

I always mounted my one piece just like Elknuts, except that I mounted it with the string up.
