the land I hunt is all swamp most of the time I use leg waders .this year the water is too deep for them plus early season its too hot.I do use a canoe in some spots but grass an stumps make useing it hard (you would just have to see the place)my Question is do any of you just say the heck with it an were just your camo pants an shoes an just deal with getting wet when the weather is warm because thats just about where I am with all of this.chest waders are too hot.this land kicks my hind end every year.but the deer are big an they are alot of sika deer here.this place is so hellish it tries to break your will with every step.this is a place I wont be able to hunt much past 55 years old.getting deer out of this place is something you dont think much about until you have to or you would probally never shoot one.sign addicted to prestine beauty.

Try and find the high dry areas of the swamp, and find the shallow trails they use to get in and out. If its really flooded they will have to leave(to feed and bed). If you find the high areas you can manage what to wear and have a stash point to leave waders and such when you get to the dry area, and put on the camo then. They may hang in the swamps for cover but they need land to sleep on. focus on those areas and it may make things a little easier. Oh and a big buck is worth all the trouble of a day in the swamp cause the memory last a lifetime.Tim

difference in the world, but the Marines don't have that problem.

Tennis shoes and lt. wt. pants to get in. change into dry socks and pants afterward or do like I do and just grin and bare it.lol.Also never drag a critter. Bone him out where he lays.RC

Sounds like the flat version of where I hunt! Kicks your butt and is hard getting them out but they are big. Just the way its supposed to be, right?
Learn, practice and pass on "leave no trace" ethics, no matter where you hunt.

Killdeer

That is how I have been working for the last two weeks! Just got my feet dried out today. Come cold weather it will be a whole 'nother story.

Sounds very familiar!  Chestwaders and bugs...but big bucks!  I've tried pulling back a small kyak with me, in case i shoot something, not sure if i'm lucky or not but I haven't had to try to get one out yet.

I often use chest waders to get across the deeper stuff to the high gound, then change into calf high muck boots that I carried in on my back.  When it is cooler, I often just wear the  waders under an ultra light ghillie suit.  I believe it cuts my scent a fair amount.
