i am considering hunting from the ground a lil' more this year and have built a few natural blinds in the past few weeks.. was wondering on an average how far do ya'll  build your blind from the food source you plan on the deer coming to, or how far from the trail they will be walking down. i know there are a several factors that play a role like amount of cover, wind, etc but say you have an ideal situation, is 10-12 yds to close or 20+ sound more "normal"

I like 10 yards. However which ever way I plan on deer coming they then come from a different way and usually end up at about 3-5.

Obviously, the father away from the animals nose that you are the less likely it is to smell you. Whatever distance you decide upon should be predicated by your ability to put the arrow where it should be at that given distance. Good luck.

10-12 yards. where I hunt that's about the max average. If you get lucky maybe a 15 yard shot but they have to be in the right spot, otherwise all the brush and trees will be a problem.

I'll take what I can get, though my personal yardage max is comfortably at 15; preferably under.

I like my blinds about 12yds from where I think the deer will be. I have shot deer as close as 4yds to my blind and as far away as almost 20yds.

I like my ground blinds for 15 yard shots and under.

I have mine at 12 paces or about 10yds
from where they cross the creek.

I like 15 or so yds and have had some bad experiences trying to shoot deer from the ground at distances of less than 10 yards. It obviously depends on the conditions but when a sudden noise occurs that close to them they can do some crazy stuff.

joe skipp

20-25 yds depending on the terrain and cover. Anything less is too close..

The deer I shot last year was about 12 yards. The one I missed was about the same.

I`m with Joe Skipp on this one. I struggled to kill deer from the ground because I would get close and always get busted. Now if I`m ground hunting I try to get at least 20 yards away.I`m talking about natural blinds with a leafy suit on. I killed one in a pop up blind that had been sitting out for 2 months at 4 yards.
I`m gonna one day sell all my treestands and hunt from the ground.RC
