I am running behind I built a wood stand today an spray painted it.I got 1 week til opener lots of rain in forcast do ya think odor will be gone? I used fast drying matt finish non oil base.also would of painted it at all? it was new ply wood an 2x4.

The paint will probably help seal in the new wood smell and be gone after some rain.  Rob

Smell won't last long at all.   Just be safe in your home built stand and wear your harness.

Next time pre paint the pieces in the yard. As a future tip you can add vanilla extract(or any extract for that matter) to regular cans of paint and the smell of the extract will stay in the paint long after it dries. I have done this many times in my home (on the walls)and it works keeps the house smelling like vanilla rather than the dogs butt.

Deer ain't afraid of spray paint, they're afraid of the guy sitting on the stand.  Seriously, they go past there twice and it is "normal".

And lpcjon2 - how did the dog get his butt on the walls?  That picture made me laugh....especially with 4 dogs around here.  We are currently overdogged ourselves.

You will be fine, unless you are in a remote, no people area, deer smell things like paint all the time.

It'll be fine.  The smell will fade quickly with it being outside.

I painted a metal ladder stand and took it to the woods two weeks before our season opened last fall.  I had deer all around me the second day of season.

We do have a few wooden ladder stands that we built ourselves on the property we hunt.  We have some painted and some that are bare treated lumber.  Haven't noticed any difference between them as far as how the deer react.  The walk past them all of the time and the stands just become part of their natural surroundings.  So paint it if you want, don't if you want.  I don't think it makes much of a difference.  Good luck this fall!
