One of my friends gave me a timber AKA canebrake rattler the other day.  Well I skinned him and dryed him. After talking to Kenney (4runr) and Bill (Zipper) for some advice on how to put the skins on my limbs, I told myself that I would wait until hunting season was over to attempt to install them.
After all the activities my wife planned for the labor day weekend I soon realized that I would not be hunting. So I went at it... I still have to put the finish on the limbs but I can't believe how good they look! Not bad for my first attempt.

This is how he looked to start with.

Beautiful.  That turned out awesome.

What glue did you use?  How are you going to finishe them?

Canebreak rattlers are beautiful for sure.  That is a monster snake as well!
Give me a bow a topo and two weeks, and I guarantee I kill two weeks!

Benjy

Tight bond III is the glue that was recommended so that's what I used. My background is in auto body repair and painting so I am going to use automotive clear to finish the limbs.

Looking good, Benjy!Just wait until the finish hits them. That should bring out the color.

Great job. I'm no expert on paint but is the auto paint that you're going to use flexible? If not, it might be a problem especially on a recurve as the limbs flex. You might get some crazing. I'd ask Bill or Bob Morrison or Great Northern what they use for a clear. When I used to do the skins, I used Spar Urethane which does have some flexibility. I may be totally off base, but I'd ask the experts.

So you got both limbs out of 1 skin? What's the AMO of the bow? I'm dying to do this to a bow but it always seems like you would need 2 skins that match......gets pricey.
