Recently I ran across a Southern Draw longbow. It was 45# and was 66" in length. It is a takedown bow (3piece) and has an interesting riser. The rise is like that of a recurve but the handle is cut like a longbow handle.

The first few times that I shot it I heeled it like a longbow but the shots were all over. Eventually I started using the yoke of my hand the way that you would shoot a recurve. Wow, it was all the difference in the world. Arrows now were flying like darts and accurate.

I think this bow is unique. Just wondered if any of you were familiar with these bows.

Heard of Southren Cross bows but not Southern Draw. Southern Cross are Aussie made.

Very familiar. I have had about 6 total. I have 2 right now. Both Righties T/D. 43# one short 56" and the other 64". All that I have shot are great shooters. The Bowyer is Jeff Carter from Alabama. He lives about 30 mintues from me. He works a time comsuming job now and no longer makes bows. Kinda a shame as it was one of the nicer bows made in the South. Highly recommend his work if ya run across one. He used alot of Bacote in limbs so the bows were not only good shooters but very good looking too.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways-BOW in one hand-ARROWS in the other-Body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming-WOO HOO! WHAT A RIDE!

I borrowed one of Jeff's bows from a buddy of mine for a while.  It was a nice bow.  Lonewolf, you must live close to me because from what I understand Jeff Carter only lives a few minutes from my house.

I also have a Southern Draw 3 peice longbow. 64 or 66 inch....can't remember.   45lbs.   Nice bow, but just don't shoot it as often as it deserves.   Need to list it on the classifieds here when I get some time.

I thought it unusual that it has a riser more like a recurve yet the handle is more fitting for a longbow. It seemed odd to hold it like a recurve but it shot great when you did.  :jumper:    :archer2:
