simmons steelmaster sharpener

wondering if anybody has had good luck sharpening their simmons sharks (or any concave type heads for that matter) with the simmons steelmaster. is it fairly easy to use and how many different grit sharpening rods does it come with? tried to find it on the website but i guess im just blind... p.s. any other suggestions will be great to sharpen a Tree Shark? thanks in advance

I've heard nothing but good reviews of the Steelmaster. I'm sure others will answer in more detail.

Steel master comes with a file and two ceramic rods. I've used one for years and they will get them sharp. Use the file until you have a burr, without the burr, it's not going to be sharp. Really easy to use, I highly reccommend them.

I also use the Steel Master. On new heads a few 'light' strokes with the ceramic rods is all it takes to have them shaving sharp. Dave at Simmons advised me on how to use it. He said when folks are having a hard time with it it's almost always because they are using too much pressure on the rods.

I also use it to take the final burr off other type heads and knives. It's a very versatile tool.

It will work on any 2 blade head. When you use the file be sure to use it on the same side of the board. Sharpen the head with the file from back to front. Sharpen with the ceramic rods from front to back with light pressure.LCH

Good advice, I've been guilty of this. I think this occurs until you figure out the burr. If you don't have a burr, you can't put enough pressure on the ceramic rods to sharpen them. With a burr, you just have to lightly stroke them. Be advised, you will cut your thumbs on the tip using this if you're not careful!

I really like mine. I use it on Simmons and other 2-blades. It's easy. I also talked to Dave before buying one.

Use it enough and you can feel/hear when the burr is gone and the head is sharp

I use my Steelmaster to sharpen my STOS. It will get them where they need to be.

I love my steelmaster just dont put more into it than you should just light pressure and work the head till you get a good burr then use the finer hone and you will be good!!IMO

Don't stare at the edge too hard after using the steelmaster.... you'll bleed !!!! Seriously, it works great !!!

I don't know about the steelmaster, but I REALLY like the 'Ace Broadhead Guide' that Charlie posted... My wife made fun of me 'cause I didn't have any hair left on my left arm after sharpening my Tiger Sharks!

I haven't tried the Steelmaster, but I think some kinda guide like the Razor Edge Arrowhead Guide or anything that will give the same angle stroke with file or whatever is a good tool for people that have a hard time sharpening heads.

I use and endorse it 100%. I have bare legs because I cannot get over just how effective it is--just keep on shavin'. WEAR GLOVES WHILE YOU USE THE THING.

I bought one of these recently to soo if I could improve the edges I was getting on my Simmons heads. I think it does a good job, but having said that, I think I could have cobbed together close to the same thing with parts from my Lansky.
