shooting a tab in cold weather

I live and hunt in Wisconsin and I am thinking of switching to a tab. Do any of you guy's from northern climates that shoot with tabs have any trouble? How do you deal with the tab in the late seasons?

I shoot with a tab. Usually I just keep my hand in a pocket with a hand warmer until I need to draw. I do have a glove with the fingers cut off that I can use. It is one that has the mitten part to pull over the fingers. I had to shorten the finger part a bit to make room for the tab. It usually ends up being more fiddling around than it's worth, so I just use the hand in the pocket routine.

I used a shooting glove for a while, but as far as keeping my hands warm it was no better than the tab.

I usualy shoot with a glove, but I like using a tab in the cold weather!!!!!

I have an oversize (XL?) "Can't-Pinch" tab that I wear over a glove on my string hand. I shoot 3under,so I pulled the plastic insert out of it,and it works just fine!!!

If you want to shoot with a tab, I would suggest buying 2... One that fits your hand, and a larger one that fits over a glove. It might be the best $5-$10 investment you ever make.

I enjoy a tab for all seasons. Before season opens I pratice with a smiple jersey glove on my tab hand for about a week. In real cold weather I have a muff on my waist with a chem. warmer. Leather tab fingers can get cold.

I either wear the hand warmer muff or when it gets real cold the mittens that fold over to expose Your fingers.

I have been using a tab for over fourty years and what I use is a lightweigh poly liner glove with a 1/2 finger fleece glove over the liner glove with the tab with no problems. When cold and windy I keep my hand inside a pocket with a heat pack. This is good to around zero.

Try keeping a chemical heat pack (or two) in your pocket and just stick your hand with tab in there. It's worked for me on days down to freezing. Might work below that, but it's never been cold enought here for me to try it. My buddy who told me about it used to keep his hand warm enought to arrow a elk in Montana at 14 degrees.

I use a wool fingerless glove. If I am moving it is plenty warm enough. When sitting I put may hand in my pocket. If putting up a stand I will take the tab off and wear a leather glove over the wool when it is realy cold.

That is exactly what I do, and it works great for me. I make sure to practice with the glove on, and have had no problems at all.

Then things get real cold, I use a black silk glove liner (get them at Motorcycle Stores), a fairly tight wool glove (military surplus) with three fingers cut out, and then the tab.

Ditto what woodchucker said--tabs are great in the cold weather because you can wear a full glove with one and still shoot normally. I actually switchwed to a tab all the time due to this plus in cold weather.

Not to distract from this thread I use the same wool glove with cut off fingers and keep my hand in one of those insulated hand warmer muff deals.

I have a piece of leather cut a little larger than my tab, without the loop to go over my finger, glued to the fingers of the glove where the tab should be positioned. Then if you want, it's optional, you can cut the leather down between each finger or leave it whole.

That way you have some gloves on which helps fight the cold, and you have the leather material that matches your tab already glued permanently in place. Works for me....

I always shoot my tab with a glove. Just to cover the white. I cut the three fingers off the right hand. In really cold weather I use one of those mits that flip back and you then have a fingerless glove. The mit part is held to the back of the wrist with a magnet I put a hand warmer in the mit part. When a an animal comes you flip back the mit and it still keeps your fingers warm, because of the hand warmer on the back part of your wrist.

You'll still need to cut a little off the finger part of the fingerless glove part.

I wear a nomex aviators glove under a fingerless flip back wool mitten. The leather on the inside of the fingers allows me to shoot just like wearing a tab. Plus it adds to the warmth of the outer glove.

Flip top wool mit is a Winner for me!
The wind in that weather is killer...
Chemical warmer in pocket is a must.
A little leather over the wool keeps you nice and toasty in just about any weather.
And it's all to your lonesome
