Hello all I have a 58 ACS 3 piece short bow, and it has a metallic ping sound. I have tried different silencers and different strings and also limb savers
Anything I can try that somebody else has tried. I have a regular 62 ACS that doesnt have this problem at all it is real quiet.
Thanks Carl

The bows are known for being very quiet............what is the arrow weight and bow #?

Troy Breeding

Sounds like your bow and arrows aren't tuned togethers. Are you trying to shoot the same arrows that you use in the other bow?

I have a 58" ACS with a set of Hush Puppies on it and it is whisper quiet. If I could figure out why it consistenly shoots to the left I'd have an awesome shooter !

Sounds like arrow contact too me.  Try increasing you point weight a bit and see if it clears up.

James, you send that bow to me and you won't have to worry about it shooting to the left anymore  :bigsmyl:

My mistake, Its shooting to the right ! I've even built the strike plate out a little and it still does it. Sorry Whipbow, I'm not trying to highjack your thread, but I'm about to pull out what hair I have left with this thing ! They can be trying !

My nock point is 5/8". I am shooting 57 lbs @28"
shooting a beman ics 340 arrows cut to 29". with 100 grain insert and 145 tip. The sound comes even if you just barely pluck the string not just at release. Again Ive had or many 3 Acs and they all wisper quiet.  thanks for replies

Craig

When I got my ACS it was really noisy. My grip was the standard grip. I sent it back and had them make it a low grip and the bow is super quite. I think I was torquing the bow with the standard grip.

Since you stated it pings when plucked it could be acouple other things.

1.) try a heavier string (i.e. more strands)

2.) what kind of material is between the limbs and riser. I take and oil bottle and cut out a plate to go in between the limb and riser. The plastic really dampens alot of noise.

I have been playing with it with friends and the ping sounds come from the upper limb near the nock only the lower limb is totally quiet. I have a 12 strand endless d97 and the string that came from ACS

Ok we tried going through different brace heights and 7 1/2 is better than 7

This may sound crazy, but try shooting a new or at least different tab.IF that is what you use.I started to notice some extra noise with my very worn tab.I shot without the tab just using bare fingers and no noise.Once I pulled out a new tab the noise was gone. Its worth a try.

ACS bows do not have any type of cushion material between the limb and riser pad.  They use wax to cushion the connection.

I would check to see if you have enough wax on the riser pad and the limb pad.  A clicking or  creeking sound can be heard if there is not enough wax. It always helps to keep the surfaces liberally coated with wax.

Hope this helps.

What Bill said does make since. Hadn't thought about that, but afew weeks ago I forgot my tab and had to buy a new one. The normal twang I hear when I shoot was just about gone. Since then I've put new leather on my normal tab with great results.

I never heard that they used wax on the riser, I will be gettingn mine back this week after sending it back to have the riser reworked to low wrist. I ahve never had a problem with noise.

I have found that the 12 in. riser bows need a little more work to make them quiet. What I have done is, setting my brace height to 7 1/2 in. and use cat wiskers on a 10 strand astro flight string. I usually put hush puppys on my strings but the cat wiskers seem to work best on the short bows. You can slide them on the string for the best tune.
