Well its time to build one sick of leaving stuff at home . Any body got any pics or ideas?

I built one 30+ years ago for my truck but it weighed so much it was impractical. Most I've seen homemade wind up to be two man lifts. I just use dedicated totes I get from Lowes to store all of my camping and cooking gear in.

My mom built one out of a plywood chest. She put compartments in it, and when it sat on the table, the lid opened from the side, making a small counter, and was held horizontal by chains at each end. It was heavy, especially once it was packed, but it stayed in the tent-camper most of the time.

I set camp close to the truck, but such a chest would be too heavy for me to want to deal with. The bulk of it also makes demands on your packing strategy when it comes time to find a spot for it in your vehicle. I use tubs, as I can fit them in nooks here and there. Roll top tables are my work spaces in the cook shack, and the tubs go under and between them.

We could be more helpful if we knew what kind of camping you do.

I keep a rubbermaid type tub loaded and ready. When I'm packing I can grab it and know everything is there.

Yah, me too.
I keep mine topped up with enough dehydrated food to keep 2 people going for 7 days easily, or 14 if it's well rationed. A propane camp stove with a spare cylinder is in there, along with salt, sugar, a fry pan, 2qt saucepan, cooking & eating utensils, coffee, tea bags, a 2qt kettle, powdered milk, dish soap, cups, bowls & a coffee pot. I leave a first-aid kit in there too & I always have 5 gallons of water ready to go. Matches & 6 or 7 butane lighters are in there, a spare flashlight 12 AA batteries, a bottle of hot sauce, dishtowels, ibuprofen & bug spray.

There's bunch of other stuff in there, but I can't remember what.
