what is fletch dry made of? do you use it for anything else?

JimB

I don't know this for a fact but it looks and feels like cabosil.Cabosil is mixed into polyester and epoxy resins to thicken them into a gel.

Pete McMiller

I've got both Cabosil and Fletch Dry here and they appear different to me.  The Fletch Dry is more rosin-like IMO and more like talc in texture.  I don't know what it is but is sure works good, been using it for years.

OK Pete thanks.I didn't have Cabosil to compare.I get in trouble when I work off memory.

Someone told me it's the same stuff they use to mix with pan powder for flintlocks... coats the grannules of powder to keep moisture out.. but can't recall the chemical name. Common stuff If'n I'm right... was it ground up gypsum powder? (ie, drywall?)

Someone also said it's the same powder used to coat dry flies...or dry out drenched ones!
The words "Child" and "terminal illness" should never share the same sentence! Those who care-do, others question!

I have heard of it being used for black powder and dry flies.  I don't know what it is but it sure works on feathers and flies.  Never used it myself for black powder.  I just keep my pan covered with a cows knee with no problems.

I use No Snow.  It's the stuff for spraying whisker biscuit rests.  Seems to work pretty well.

Use Tire Wet or No Snow...the Fletch Dry leaves a puff of powder in the air as the arrow leaves the bow...a little annoying actually...lol

Been using the DRI-TITE by Bohning. It is used by the fly fisherman if it keeps those fly,s in the water dry it is a pretty much sure thing in the rain for feathers. Those goose feathers are also waterproof you might try those.
