Got a text from my wife yesterday that a package that I was expecting had arrived.

I kinda was hoping that instructions would tell you had to shoot the bow, but I guess info on brace height and the bowbolt will have to do.  Here are some pics of what was inside.

Similar to the bow that Ron posted on and Allan DeVore (amar911) reviewed, but was owned by Doug Burns. Here is my new shrew safari. I can't say enough about the quality of Gregg Coffey's work.  The specs are 60", takedown with bowbolt, 77# @ 29", phenolic riser with stained curly ash limbs, and buffalo horn tips and overays.  Gregg said that there was some crazy figuring in the veneers, and I would say that he was spot on.  I quickly cannabilized the string from my 60 inch centaur and started shooting.  The first shot was a few inches off, but my next 8 arrows were one of the best groups that I have shot.  Now, bear in mind I was only 14-15 yards away at the time.


       
       


I put the bow away and waited for my friend, Cam, to show up later for some shooting.  I settled back into my normal shooting, which isn't too bad, but not nearly as good as my first group.  The bow is really stable and smooth.  The weight of the phenolic riser helps with the stability, but the bow isn't very heavy overall.  Amazing how small of a riser is used considering the bowbolt.  I also didn't have trouble drawing the bow back to my draw of around 29 1/4", even when cold.  I would assume this was in large part due to the amount of deflex built into the bows design.  As Allan has said previously;  perhaps a few feet per second slower than some bows (and faster than some) but the other characteristics of the bow more than make up for it.

Good looking bow looks like a shooter to. Been thinking about ordering a shrew myself but man that is a long time to wait for a new bow.

Thanks.  I used 4 different arrow types for that first group.  29.5" Axis 300 with weight tubes and around 275 grains up front for a total weight of around 700 grains, 29.5" AC superslim with weight tubes and 300 grains up front for a total weight of arount 700 grains, 30" AD shafts ( Don't remember the type, but they are the ones that are color coded and this is the stiffest of them) with 300 grains up front and aquarium tubing in the front of the shaft for a total weight of around 860 grains, and 30" AD Big Game shafts with a whole lot up front(Can't remember how much I screwed into the brass insert) with a total arrow weight of around 1000 grains.

They all looked good at that range, but the 300 spined shafts showed weak at farther ranges.

Gorgeous bow!  And nice shooting to boot.  Enjoy it....on my wish list one day.

It's a right nice looking bow and you shot it well last night, Pat.

The bow does have a manufacturing flaw in it though....the arrow shelf was cut into the wrong side of the riser.  Told Pat he needed to send the bow back and get it corrected, but he said he actually PREFERS to draw a bow back with his left arm.        

All bs'ing aside, this is a really nice bow. The buff horn on the overlays is the icing on the cake. The horn and the wood together is a good combo. Very quick and quiet little bow.

Wow, what a beautiful Shrew Pat.  Glad it is to your liking buddy.  Hopefully we will be chasing some hogs together this Fall & get it broken in the right way!

Another beautiful bow by Gregg Coffey        He sure does build some stunning bows!!!    Too bad it's wrong handed though.
