My elk bow was dubbed "Native Son". I was born in Colorado but raised in Maryland. I go back every few years on an elk hunt and thought that would be a good name for my new Elk hunting partner.

Plus my brother was born in Maryland but has lived in Colorado for 15 years and it's a running barb between us - neither would qualify for native plates in the state in which we reside but would in the state of the other. And the cool thing is it bothers him more than me!!!

Almost 50 years old and I still love picking on my little bro.....some things just never grow old   :smileystooges:

GREATBROWNKNOCKEMDOWN

My first Big River longbow has Dirty bamboo limbs with an Osage and Black phenolic riser, with elk antler tips. I used her on my fist trad season last fall. Her colors reminded me of an "Indian Summer" so thats what i named her, she brought me WAY lots of luck last year especially when my Indian summer went to the Bad lands of North Dakota last Nov, it's like she and i was meant to be there. Names will come for all the rest, when i get them out hunting for a season.

Schafer

My Schafer is called "HAND ME DOWN" because when my dad got it he was going to hand it down to me.

Killdeer

I have a Jindo gae named Spirit.
Here she is with her favorite toy.

So I bought a Sheepeater Spirit, and named it Jindo. That dog is a squirrel-hunting machine, and has killed five groundhogs. I am hoping that some of that will inspire me in the field.

TGMM Family Of The Bow

After ordering a new Sarrels Blueridge takedown longbow, Bob called me up to come over his place and try out the grip before he put the finish on it. I ordered the bow "plain Jane" with a solid riser and black glass limbs. While I was testing out the new ride at his shop another fellow was there also to look at some of Bob's bows. Bob introduced me to the other guy and said something to the effect of "Bisch has killed more animals with a longbow than the Black Plague". Well. my tiny little pea brain got to ticking and I told Bob right there that this bow was named Black Plague and to put it on the upper limb.

I never had named a bow before and really had not planned on naming this one but it just sort of happened. That bow is now my go-to bow.

My favorite Hill bow is named "The Captain," in honor of the fine gentleman I purchased it from. That is his nickname.  Thanks again Dick. It's a sweety.  Alex

I usually let a bow name its self....

Sizzle, Herd Bull, With Authority, Zip Code, Big Bad Wolf....

But I once named a bow before it was built.....I named it 'Tines' and designated it to kill a big buck with it....and the colors represented the many colors of the tines we chase....this was the 1st buck I killed with Tines...

I committed this 60 inch - 64#@28 Thunderstick MOAB to taking a big buck.  I have been taking this bow exclusively here in GA for 2 seasons hoping to get a nice buck with it.  The lams are Tamo Ash, and the colors of the limbs represent the many colors of the tines we chase.  And did I ever take a nice buck with it!...a 140 class 260# bruiser ten point.  Bout as pretty as they come......

So...it depends...most of mine have earned names...something along the way names it....but this one was named before hand and was destine for that name.

I got a SunBear from Charlie Lamb "Big Bad Wolf" and it had 3 light hash marks on the bow....I noticed it and didn't know why they were on the upper limb...but soon found out....another bow that killed 3 pigs in one weekend....

So....it depends on you or the bow...you can name it before hand...or let the name come to the bow.

Great pics everyone!

Killdeer, your dog is a sweetheart...you can see it in her eyes.

That is the largest deer heart I have ever seen.
Something a hunter can appreciate, especially sliced thin, and fried in butter with a hint of garlic and some hickory smoked salt.

My "go to" bow is a Pittsley Predator. I call it "Serious business".

At my house, hunting is serious business. Hit them hard, and hit them good...serious business.

The only bows of mine at are named are my MOAB's. My first was orfered for one purpose- huntin deer. Very basic bow, dymonwood riser, with bamboo venneer on the limbs. Simple, but effective. I call this bow "Meat".

My 2nd MOAB, argueably my favorite, for certain the prettiest, is my Thunderstick MOAB Arrow Inlay Bow. It holds a special place in my heart, the money I paid for it was used to help send a sick child on a dream hunt. Pretty as a picture, I call this one "The Mistress". When it arrived, as I unboxed it I told my wife, oh, by the way, you're sleepin on the couch tonite. Hence the name.

And finally, the newest in my collection ofMOAB's is my takedown. I spec'ed this one with one thing in mind-elk. Its my elk huntin bow,and I call it "Dark Timber". This bow will kill nothing before it kills an elk. If I do not get an elk with it, I'll deer hunt with either Meat or The Mistress this year. I usually alternate between the two each season so I dont have to make adjustments in my shot.

I have  Kanati that I named "The Quinn" after my gramps.

my 1st working selfbow when i make it will be called 'the shaman', cause it'll have a sense of magic about it.
