I have been out of traditional archery for a several years now and then I only casually shot.
I have a 55# Martin Savannah and a pile of  wooden arrows I am shooting to get back in the swing of things and get into shape.  I am thinking of switching to carbon arrows and would like to hear some opinions.  Who shoots them and why?

1. What do you plan to hunt?

2. Are you planning to use a 2 Blade or 3 Blade BH?

3. What finished arrow wt range are you interested in?

4. Are you interested in either a sufficient,  moderate or more optimized arrow penetrating design?

There are numerous options available, however you need to decide what the end use is to be.
Note: Carbons permit the advantage of easily dialing in to specific applications and arrow designs targetted for the critters I pursue.

Most important is your draw length.  If it's not 28 your not shooting 55 LBS.

Ease of tuning.

Decide what broadhead weight you want to hunt with, buy the appropriate inserts/points, shoot.  I cut mine to 30" and shoot both 50 and 100 grain inserts.  My bows range from 45-55@28, and the AD's shoot well out of all of them.

They're fairly heavy shafts and reasonably tough.

I hunt hogs and Whitetails in South Alabama. I shoot 2 blade broadheads and I am interested in shooting a head in the 175-200 grain range.  I like the idea of a heavy set up for optimized penetration.  My draw length is 27 1/2".  

Also, I would like to hear who shoots what brand carbon arrows, and what grain they like for hogs and/or whitetails?

I'd just get some of the Arrow Dynamics Trad Lites and put whatever head you want on them.  They're really forgiving shafts. It might not be a bad idea to get half a dozen of the Hammerhead Lites, too.  They are really tough shafts that are great for stumpshooting.

What Les said! Great way to start narrowing it down.

If you are just starting I pull about #50 and I shoot full length carbon express predator II 45-60. Braveheart archery has them for a great price! I am using a 200gr head on them now.
