Yeah, bears are very warm and add about 20* to most bag ratings. I like to invite them into my sleeping area with Snickers. They just love those. Better than Almond Joy in my experience. ;0)

Learn, practice and pass on "leave no trace" ethics, no matter where you hunt.

If you don't want a Kifaru, these will be the best you will find IMO.

Speaking of tarps, here is a pic of a 10x10 that is huge for one person and still lighter than most tents. I like the quality closed cell pads, like the z rest, if I have to carry them a long ways, plus there is no danger of a flat. MSR pocket rocket is hard to beat but lately I have been using a trangia and am kinda liking the alcohol. I can't comment on sleeping bags I have a north face that I have been using since about 92.

I went with the Kifaru paratipi, got it used from the trading post on thier website. My son carries that in hi pack, and I have a Kelty tarp as well, which can be set up to cook/eat under, and to store packs and bows at night. Looking at getting a Kifaru sawtooth tent next year.
Big Agnes air core pad, Marmot Helium bag. Only down side is the bag slides around easily on the pad,not sure how I'm gonna solve that problem, perhaps laying a jacket or something between them.
...stood alone on a montaintop, starin out at a great divide, I could go east, I could go West, it was all up to me to decide, just then I saw a young hawk flyin and my soul began to rise......

John, do yourself a favor and get a Big Agnes bag...you won't be sorry.

To be rested and ready to hunt hard the next day is extremely important. I have used other pads...do yourself a favor and do as others have said...Big Agnes Air Core pad!
Isaiah 49:2...he made me a polished arrow and concealed me in his quiver.

i recently did a 12 day tahr hunt in NZ by backpack. my gear was-

stove- kovea titanium. very happy with it.

sleeping mat- ok, but i'm looking at getting a full length mat that is 1/2 the weight and packed size.

tent- hilleberg soulo. very impressed with it! the wind blew hard one night and i was expecting to get blown off the mountain at any moment. it was scary actually. it sustained absolutely no damage. worth every cent.

sleeping bag- exped waterbloc 800. again i was impressed.
