As some of you might remember, I got Cade started bowfishing last year in June.  Even thought I wasn't sure if he could pull enough to get an arrow in far enough, there just wasn't anymore holding him back!

So we went out the first time last year with friends Timmy and Gary K., and Glenbo, he hit the very first fish he ever shot at, even got it on video....but my fears became reality...the barb didn't hold!  But what a way to start, I know guys that shoot shot after shot after shat that just can't seem to get the hold of shooting into the water.

Then last year about this time, Terry(indianabowman) called to invite Cade and my self to go bowfishing with him and his sone Tyler on his friends boat...the Carp-a-geddon!

Again, he did very well shooting, but just wasn't getting enough "umpf" behind his arrows to get enough penetration...

Went a few more time locally and Terry was gracious enough to take us two times on on his personal boat...the result was always the same, hit fish, but none landed.

Every time we went out with Timmy, Gary, and Glen...the mission was always to help cade get his first carp.  Everyone gave up opportunities to let Cade have a go at the fish. We even worked on a bunch of special points that might help with penetration...but by the end of the summer, even though he'd hit a bunch of fish, he never did land one.

So with the new year here,Cade a little bigger and stronger...we thought for sure when we planned a trip to Alabama with Don and Sky, it would happen there.

Don even made the effort to make Cade a special arrow that he thought might help with his situation. It was an absolutely amazing trip, and again, Cade was consistantly hitting fish, but just couldn't keep those big, amazingly strong buffalo's on.

Then our first trip around home here with Timmy and Gary, Cade again hit the very first fish he shot at but not solidly enough to hold it!

That brings us to Friday night......

Terry had called to invite us to go on the Carp-a-geddon again on Thurday evening.  I knew Cade was(me too) dying to get back on that boat, so after making sure work and baseball wouldn't conflict....we headed up the mighty Hudson river, and found ourselves waiting at the boat ramp...

The Carp-a-geddon is an incredible rig...
•

As you can see in the pix, it was a beautiful evening. All together it would be Terry and his and Mrs. Receveur, son (and beautiful bear killer) Tyler, daughter Emily who would be bowfishing for her first time, me, Cade and of course Capt. Bob.

Capt. Bob and Terry having a laugh...
•

Emily and Cade were up front to get first crack at anything Cpt. Bob spotted...Tyler and I would back them up, and take any "long-ish" shots.  Tyler was the first to connect and a great long shot on his side of the boat...
•

Emily was doing great, even though she'd never shot a bow before, the Receveur genetics took over and she started hitting fish! But because of the weeds, Water Chestnuts(about the stringiest, strongest weeds imaginable) she was having troulbe landing them.

Water Chestnuts...
•

Cade was having the same trouble, he's already hit 2 fish that had pulled off when something very memorable for all involved was about to unfold...

I spotted a fish out in front of Cade and myself, pointed it out to him, and as he drew, I drew to back him up.

My plan was to shoot and get another arrow into anything he shot.  I released on his release....my arrow dissappeared in the muddy water, as his started dancing off through the water....fish on!

He'd made another great shot, and everyone immediately went into "oh my goodness lets help him land this fish mode"!

Because of these crazy Water Chestnuts fighing this fish would be very delicate operation.

Cade stayed up on the shooting deck as Tyler got down off of it to grab the line, and hopefully the fish when the time came.  I handled the line to get it to Tyler. Capt. Bob manuvered the boat to do all he could do to help. Terry snapped pix...we all held our breath......

After a few very tense minutes, Tyler reached over the boat, barely keeping his balance because he was reaching out so far, and bear hugged Cade's big golden trophy!

The happiest kid in the world...

Where he hit the fish...
•
•

We'd always thought it would take a small carp for Cade's arrow to stick....but this wasn't the case here...he got a big one!
•

After trying about every combination of points and arrows.....The arrow/point combination that finally ended up working  was a cut down solid fiberglass fish arrow, and a doctored up Muzzy fish point that I cut a slot in,  JB welded in the tip off of a Zwicky Delta into, and cut down the barb length...
•

Come to find out, I had all I could do to get the arrow out of this fish. The barbs had hooked themselves into the bones coming down into the body off the dorsal fin...it was in solid as a rock!

I have a cpouple more pix, but I'll let Terry come on  and catch up with his pix and storys....
