I like to use California woods in my bows if I can. Do any of you have a bow that used Redwood in the build, if so would you post pictures?

Thank you

Saw some redwood burl veneers at Compton's. Great looking stuff. BigJim was getting some, one or two of his customers will be very happy!!

I'll let you guess who might be getting that redwood.

The redwood I picked up at compton looks like pheasant feathers. Seen it from a distance and latched on to it before they even opened.
I would have fought for it if I had to. :)

redwood is a very soft wood.
Don't know where you plan to use it but it is quite soft.

Well I'll just have to see what Jim does with it... If he works it into a bow I have complete confidence in the result... He also mentioned the possibility of using some stabilized Redwood in the riser. I was just hoping that someone here had a bow with some redwood limbs so I could get a taste.... I want another Buff and told Jim to surprise me, can't wait  :)

I would have complete confidence in the Big man too.
Didn't quite understand what was going on.
Just was a friendly word of caution.

Hope to see some pics when done!

There is no issue with the redwood used as a veneer. Also a stabilized block will work well for the riser. Problem is finding a piece that is big enough and stabilized. Stabilizing is what they do to actionwood to make it dymondwood (basically).
Coaster, I looked through the slideshow and couldn't find any pics of the redwood. I have done 2 or 3 bows that way and the wood is georgeous in a bow. I unfortunately forget to take pics of 3/4 s of the bows I build and if the customer doesn't post them somewhere, they never get seen. I know that's not good business, but that's the way it is.
Trust me though, you will like it!

Trust him, I, um, you will like it! It was amazing looking veneers. Sorry BigJim if I let it out of the bag, I was standing there when you asked me and KHALVERSON to guard those veneers until the vendor returned! We didn't argue     :bigsmyl:      :nono:

Sorry it took so long, but I could not find it right away and got pretty busy at work.

WOW!
When first looking the pattern of elk head gear caught my eye.

Spectacular!

Mine look just like that....only better!  :)
Those do look great. The veneers I picked up at compton had a little color variation in them too. I got excited when I noticed them.
I can't wait to see them underglass.

Some guys have a bow addiction, I have a wood addiction.

I'm with ya Big Jim, i'm a wood shopper. If i'm building a stock bow i'll spend more time deciding what to build than the build itself and if I don't cut it then it will all together different tomorrow LOL!!!
