The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

All these spring bear posts lately are getting antsy.
Gonna have to quit reading them or go bear hunting.

Congrats Mike, great story and great bear!!!

Those Firefly's are the mortal enemy of bears! Last year my Firefly attacked a bear with almost no warning or provocation.

To me, the ultimate challenge in bowhunting is not how far away you can succesfully make a killing shot but rather how close you can get to the animal before shooting.

Tim,
Thank you for posting the picture and story.  I can't tell you how much fun it was and how I look forward to going next spring.  This is the second year I've hunted with Weitas Creek Outfitters and Gary Haight.  What a fantastic, professional and friendly outfitter.  Last year it was just my brother in law and I over the Memorial Day weekend (3rd hunt), this year I brought three more friends and my brother in law.  I still daydream, at my desk job, about that afternoon.  I keep threatening my wife I'm going to move to North Central Idaho.

Mikel,

This is the guy who followed you last spring into Gary's camp - your brother in law got his bear on the last night if I remember right.  You are so right about the mountains of Idaho, they are entrancing to say the least.

Congrats.

Nice bear! and thanks for the flashback. That photo brings back some good memories of hunting with Gary.

Another great bear thread, congrats. He sure doesn't look small.
