What is better for hunting, lonbow or recurve, mainley for whitetail

TDHunter

No difference!  shoot which ever you shoot better. I prefer longbows for the lighter, simpler package but it's all preference.

It used to be that recurves were 'better' - the recurved limbs were able to transfer energy more efficiently to the arrow in(that's historically true, not just for the relatively modern sport of bow hunting).

With modern materials and the new reflex/deflex longbows, there's little if any difference between longbows and recurves of comparable quality.

The thing that always stands out as the big difference to me is the types of grips - recurves tend to have more contoured grips, whereas longbows tend to have more straight handles...and the way you grip a bow is key. Some people prefer the feel of longbows, some recurves. The best way to figure it out is to test shoot a bunch, if possible. Find one that feels good in the hand, pulls smooth and shoots straight...beyond that, I don't think the shape of the limbs matter...

...although I like the look of recurves better.  ;)

I love my Dale Stahl T/D recurve and my Bill Stewart MCTD longbow and recurve.  And the Crow Creek T/D longbow and recurve are great shooters, too!  As I stated in the thread "If You Could Only Have One", Impossible!  You can't have just one!!

Personal choice for me,I prefer a longbow.Just never really cared for a recurve type grip.

BWD

I like longbows...don't like recurves, but I just bought a recurve I really like.
Whatever fits you better.

I started out with a recurve.  A take down that I had help building.  Well, the limbs got twisted and I moved on to some longbows.  Also made one of my own.  I like shooting longbows but for me, around IL where I hunt, a shorter bow works better for me, very tight woods.  So I bought a one-peice, used, Bear Grizzly.  I'm lovin' it right now.  I shoot it just as good as a longbow.  But, it's 58" and it's working for me.

That being said, I lost sleep for the last few months trying to decide.  Good luck...

Longbows are better in every way hands down.
No such thing as a "better" recurve.

Just kiddin...Looks like you got your answer from everyone else...lol

Both result in centered targets and neat little packs of critter in the freezer when mastered. So, as everyone is saying whatever appeals to. Both appeal to a lot of people.

Personally, I need to force myself not to buy too many bows. So, I've convinced myself that I prefer the greater mass in some recurve risers and the sweet curves of the limb tips. I will avoid longbows like the plague to stay on this track.
