Hello All...

I am new to this site... I have been on StickBow for awhile and a friend of mine turned me on to this site. I was wondering if there are any functioning Traditional Clubs in Arizona anymore? There used to be one back in the 90's called Traditional Archers of Arizona. I can;t seem to find any shooting buddies around here that are willing to lose the training wheels on their bows...

Any suggestion or info would be much appreciated  :)

Thanks,

Where you at Cambow? There are several Trad Archers scattered across the state who I am sure would like company. As for the TofA club it disappeared. You will find a lot of sticks at some of the other wheelie shoots if you show up.

I work in Mesa and live in South Gilbert... Where is the best place to find out about local shoots?

In the Phx/Mesa area you have both the Ben Avery and Usery Park ranges that offer archery shooting outdoors. As far as clubs go, sorry I am not much help there

Maybe scratch off the Sunrise shoot, I just looked up the Wallow Fire info, Sunrise is on the evacuation hit list.  Feel sorry for anyone that finally drew a tag in there(Oscar for one). Unit 1 was my first choice this season, glad I got my 2nd choice instead.

Just saw on the news of the wildfire out there. Hope everyone is OK. Hope your hunting grounds survive.

Visiting my folks in Tucson and heard the the smoke can be seen from several hundred miles away.....insane. Wish I could find some trad bow folks in Yuma, AZ.

Cam,
Might want to check with Steve Shook at FOUR PEAKS ARCHERY in Mesa. It's  the only trad shop I know of in Az.

For what ever its worth Desert Archers will be having a trad shoot at our range in Nov.  Most of the good trad shoots in AZ also have wheels on separate courses.  To the best my knowledge the Buck Lewis shoot in Gardner Canyon has the most trad shooters show up.  They run separate courses.

Hey there Cambow, if you lookup Usery Mountain Archers, they run periodic Field Archery shoots at Usery Mountain Park that are a lot of fun and great practice.  You should also checkout Apache Bowhunters in Globe--not "trad only" but they did host a great trad only shoot in March, and some good guys (trad shooters).

If you follow Canyon's link to Arizona Bowhunters Association and lookup the Western States Triple Crown results for Trad (7/8 of the way down, past most of the wheelie classes), you'll see the trad shooters in AZ that compete 3D.  Next WSTC event is Bowhunter Happening at Mormon Lake (just SE of Flagstaff) July 29-31; most of us will be there.

If you like shooting wood arrows and are pretty open-minded, you might also explore the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) group in the area, which is called Twin Moons.  They have a robust archery community (stickbow and medieval crossbow shooters).  You could google them and checkout one of their weekly practices.

See you around :-D

Mormon Lake ABA I thought/ just read was July 29-31.  We rented a cabin out there already. Any tradgangers want to come by and see Ali's pink arrows & tutu are welcome.  The old days the mansoons rolled in by then.  We need the water!  My little picture of all the bulls next to my Tradgang handle is down from the lodge. Got to visit some great bowyers back then, Harold Groves, Bill Matlock and such. Hope we have some aerial targets. Hope some come out of the woodwork this year.

highcountry, THANKS, you saved my bacon!  I'd have been there a week early--I edited my post.
I need to go preregister.  Last year's BHH was a rainy mofo.  Hope it rains good beforehand but then maybe just sprinkles a little during the shoot.  I bought some wellies after last year that I want to try out.

I have my reservations at the Lodge and will be attending BHH. Look me up and take a close look at BTHA Arrows I will be shooting

We had some great times at Morman Lake years ago. I remember being rained on many times. We used to shoot early, have a big breakfast, nap and go shoot agian in the afternoon after the rain. I used to make 5 or 6 dozen arrows for the family for that shoot. Maybe we can make it?\\
I ran into a couple of trad shooters on a Wednesday this past March at Ben Avery range. Seems there is a group of archers that get together once or twice a week there. I hope to find a group when we relocate to Sun City in a few years.

How many of you Az Archers are planning Mormon Lake? Would like to hear from you.

Got a cowboy shoot over the 4th of July but I would sure like to make that shoot at Morman Lake. I am waiting on a Bama Hunter TD to show up about mid July. Not sure if I can swing both but I'll give it my best shot. Of course I'll need that Bama. Where are you at again High Country? and did you go to that wind blown shoot a few weeks ago? I can relate to the fire victims, we had some fires up here in 2002 and had to pack up, didn't need to leave but it sucks to be in that position. Got a good friend in Concho.

Up here in Flagstaff.  The shoot at Clints Wells was windy but warm, kids had a blast.  Sage won the s'more's eating contest, Ali was close 2nd. We have a shoot at Willard Springs 24-26.  There was about 10 stick shooters I seen. I shot with Middleton and his boys.  He makes nice longbows. I seen there was two flights at Mormon for Trad, funny, we barely fill one slot! Come up and help me whack rocks! Weather is getting nice up here.
