Is anybody using the Hoyt Excel Riser for hunting , if so can you please post me some pics of your Rig . I need Idea's , seriously thinking of this option , so any pro's and con's would be much appreciated . Would this make a good hunting bow , would the TradTech Longbow Limbs fit this bow ???? .

i've shat that riser before but don't own one.  i shot it with tradtech blackmax limbs (awesome limb and priced right too).  the bow shot great but that riser needs a stabilizer (very top heavy) and has a large cut out center shot so it needs a center shot rest.  riser does not have lateral adjustments but really dont need that if the limb is of good quality.  i think that riser with blackmax limbs is one of the best values out there.  if you have a 27" draw or shorter, you may want to give bob morrison a call.  he has a bunch of "blems" (limb angle cut making the bows have a 27" draw max) for the same price as a excel riser but are of much higher quality.

I have the 21" Hoyt Excel riser with Trad Tech longbow limbs and am very pleased with it, very smooth drawing and seems pretty quick. With a plunger and flipper rest is very easy to get perfect arrow flight. I wouldn't hesitate to hunt with it.

I am left handed and have not shot one but my wife is shooting one with the Black Max limbs. I have had several friends shoot it and every one has been impressed with the set up. Rod Jenkins carries these in light weight to use when teaching. Great set up, have been thinking about getting one for myself.

And yes, I would definitely hunt with it!  

First time I used one was at a Rod Jenkins clinic. I was impressed and ordered one from Rod for training.  Liked it enough that I then ordered a heavier set of tradtech limbs limbs for hunting.

Original set up had Hoyt Super Rest. I have since changed the rest and am also using a AAE/Cavalier Master Plunger.  

The bow is hunt ready though I am still "goofing" around with the plunger.

Thanks Guys, Birthday is coming up and am getting a Riser ordered along with the Limbs. Cannot wait to get it hunter ready and get myself over the pond to hunt my Elk and Mulie . Is your rider Matt Black or have you painted it?  . Thinking of onestringer limb skins too.

Not sure who this question was directed at but, mine was the "Blacked Out" riser from Hoyt. I like it much better than the gloss for hunting situations.

Thanks Wannabe , thats the look I'm going for , with some limb skins on the TradTech Longbow Limbs ..... Maybe Predator or A snake skin   .

Les , I've been thinkin about the AAE/Cavelier and Plunger , but also the Timberdoodle ..... Both should work well with 3 x 5" feathers .

I shoot a 23in Riser and LOVE it. I shoot it for Indoor and some Field/ Hunter shoots. Great Riser for the bucks.

What string do you use , FastFlight , Dacron ???????

For mine, I had a B50 dacron string on it but, it can handle the FF. I liked the dacron better as it wasn't as noisy and it was still plenty fast.

I bought my Excel from a local Hoyt dealer for $135 in blackout and I put on a set of TT wood/glass limbs rated at 35# @28". This gave me a great bow at a real decent price. Due to the angle of the limb pockets 35# limbs gives me 35# with the 21" riser. I am also thinking of getting heavier limbs for hunting at Denton Hill this July..........DaveP

Thanks Dave, that's exactly what I intend to do and am glad others have done the same, so I can pick yer brains on set-up. Are you using a rest , raised shelf , plunger etc .... and what string have you fitted ie Dacron , fast flight , how many strands ..... ?????
