does anyone know how much a single piece of .80 weed whacker string weighs at approx. 30 inches trying to get my arrows to 600 grains without going to a 200 grain head. read on here somewhere that someone had used it so tried it today and could hear a difference in the sound of the bow with a lot less vibration. just curious

I nopw use .243 brass bullet in 100 gr weight range and just epoxy them in back of the insert for my carbon insert. Helps get the weight up without special points.
you should see how I use to shoot

dont know the weight of a single peice but in my setup i have two peices of string an the gets me around 600gr

I use plastic hay bale twine, can get it in three sizes. or peal pieces of for a exact weight. Cut to lenght melt ends a little and push it in. Will not pop out knocks.

I have never heard of any of these tricks to gain weight but it never surprises me the creativeness of the members here.  Thanks for the tips.

years back when carbons first ended up the Guip method of mfg where they were different directions of carbon wrapped vs. the pultruded, guys were using everything to weight... some did salt, pepper... lots of jokes about those ideas!  :)

I used .095 weedeater, 2 sections doubled over and inserted in the hollow back of an insert.

Cannot remember what it weighed, but was close to 600 gr. with 5575 and a 29 gr alum insert and a 125 gr. head in those days.

Tried weight tubes and got horrific bad flight. Sold them.

Been using brass inserts ever since without looking back!

I use 3/16" Poly rope.. Melt both ends so it won't ravel and insert using a piece of wire, ect..  I tune my carbons with this installed.

I know 28" of 3/16 weighs right at 85 grains...

I can't remember specifics. But I was shooting GoldTip 5575 with 125 grain head and added 3 strands of weed eater string and it got me to ~600 grains +/- a few grains.

Your wasting you time.... Put the weight in the head or insert.... String in the shaft is a shock absorber. Yes you get a heavy arrow, but the line will move backward on release, forward at impact and backward after the impact. A heavy head is all forward at impact.

I've tried ALL the tricks to get weight up. Read what Mr. Morrison (Beowbldr) was experimenting with a number of years ago with heavy FOC. I gave it a try and it solved all my problems and gave me hunting arrows that penetrated better than anything I had tried. Never had the opportunity to thank Bob for sharing his findings so since he's on this thread I'll say  "Thanks" to Bob. I take everything he says seriously.
