When is the appropriate time to use the squealing hen call? I have never used this call before and nephew has one he borrowed for the weekend but we are unsure when to use it?

sawtoothscream

my uncle tried one a few times and he said it sent some running and some of the other just hung up.  as to time idk if thier is a appropriate time. if i was going to give it a shoot i would use it after i already have a bird fired up and looking for action or a fight

I would use it while predator hunting.

it would make a great pred call.  funny thing is the same company makes a pred call identical to this one haha

Never heard of the squealing hen call but as others have stated my guess is it is a predator call and not designed to call turkeys.  Probably is a distress sound a turkey would make when attacked and being killed by a predator.  If you try it let us know the outcome.

Dirtybird

It's advertised as a sound a hen makes when being breed.  Never heard it before, I'll stick with my yelps and clucks.

JMR

Thanks for the answers guys. I have never seen or used it before like I said. I was just curious as to what to do with it. We stuck to the yelps and clucks and it worked out great. My nephew got his first gobbler this morning with a shotgun at 10 yds. 17# bird 9 inch beard and 1 1/4 spurs.

The two fellas that came out to my place to hunt both used calls, one of which was as you described. It scared the hell out of the turkeys and they turned and ran, very funny I thought. It sounded like a turkey being raped. They never did get a turkey, despite spending a lot of time trying. The turkeys evidently forgot to watch the hunting shows and didn`t know they were supposed to get closed instead of further.

I thought pigs were they only ones who squealed.

The quote "squeal like a pig" reminds me WAY too much of a movie I saw a time or two.....  :saywhat:

To answer the original question, I would leave it alone and stick with the normal calls!

Yep lots of sales gimmicks out there. The basic yelp cluck and purr will kill a lot of birds.
