After a patient search I have finally acquired a bow that I've been familiar with and wanted for years.  Originally I hail out of Michigan and I was aware of Johns Bows back in the 90's, but had a bout of the wheel fever! The bow is 64" and 55# @ 28" with Johns "patented" quilted lams.  There is something extremely appealing about the lines of this bow when braced.  Can any of you Grffin guys tell me what the correct brace height is for this bow?  It came with what looks like a FF string and I'm curious if this bow is FF compatible?

Thanks in advance.

I just bought a 64" Griffin myself it seems to like 7 1/4" brace.  shoots fast and quiet

I had a 64" Griffin and mine seemed to like right at 7 1/8" for a brace height.  Very nice bows and mine was definately FF compatible, I believe all of the Griffins were (at least in the last 8 or 10 years anyhow)?

I believe my 64"er is at 7 1/4" also. I have the little brother of yours...52#@28". Very fine longbows. Glad you found one!

The extra length shortens brace height I assume.
I'll give it a spin tonite in the range you guys have suggested.  It is currently at 7" and shooting were I'm aiming, but 7" seemed awfully close.  Anyway it must be the NTN length that bring it so close.

Thanks,

Nice bow!  I know, it used to be mine.  In fact that's my front yard..LOL.  That Griffin is probably the quietest bow I've ever had.  Only reason I let it go is I'm more of a recurve guy and found someone who was willing to trade a beautiful Dale Dye recurve for it.

Congrats, you've got a winner there.  The bow is FF compatible, the string that's on it was put on by the guy I got it from and he said it was an SBD string so it's a good one.  Funny how bows get around...

pdk25

Had a 64" that was my quitest longbow ever. Brace was 6 7/8.

I don't know anything about it, except that it looks nice  :)

Easykeeper, I am a recurve guy too. But the Griffin made a believer and has a spot on my rack now. haha

I hear ya' snag.  That Griffin is easy to like.

Easykeeper, very nice bow and good all around trade, everyone is happy.  I went the ILF route and was stung by the entire process.  Never buy new in this game unless your disposable income far exceeds your IQ.  Rich got a great deal and even though, monetarily speaking, I took a big hit.  I would say I traded up from a purely functional perspective.

Can I get the story on this since the story I got is obviously secondhand!  Has it downed any animals?  Are you original owner?

I also bought the bow used and don't know the history of the bow.  You will like that bow, it's definitely a shooter.  Easy on the eyes too.  How come you posted a picture of the only scratch on the bow...   :dunno:   I've still got a few more photos of the bow if those are the only two you have.  Let me know, I'll send them your way.

Too bad on your recent bow experience.  I've always bought used bows except I finally ordered a new Blacktail recurve.  I've bought a couple of Norm's bows used so I know what to expect.  It's hard for me to tell if I'm really going to be happy with a bow until I've had it a while.  The Griffin was a great bow, just so different from what I usually shoot I would have had to commit to it and leave my Blacktail and Dye recurves alone.  That's not going to happen...   ;)

...."ordered a new Blacktail recurve."....a man after my own heart!       I should have my new Blacktail within a couple of weeks. Very excited about the wood combo....it'll have to be a surprise though...haha

So, does John use a lot of this quilted maple? Mine has it on the limbs also. I love it. Just wondering if it is a common limb veneer for him?

Interesting about how the bow has traveled. I've wanted to try one. The bows I own have all travled further than I ever have...funny.
Happy trails....   ('till we meet again, Dale Evans Rogers)

Great bows for sure! I own four of them and I love them. They are my favorite bows to shoot.

Quilted woods seem to be kind of his trademark from what I've seen.  There plenty out there that are not quilted though.

Rich sent me quite a few pics.  Even pics he took after he received in CO.  Heres a descent pic that shows her off a bit more.

After a year of obcessing over bows I'm finally down to what I consider my top and hopefully final three!  Of course this is personal oppinion at it's finest, but thought I'd share.  The problem with three is choosing your goto for whatever hunt your going on.  Anyway, here goes:
1.  3pc Thunderhorn Heartstopper
2.  3pc Habu Death Adder
3.  1pc Griffin

Form follows function, but figurative wood just does something for this mans soul.  All are pure shooters each with unique qualities.
