Reed and I kayaked and fished last week and saw a gazillion gar.  Gearing up to go after them in the morning!  I am scrambling around here like it is the night before the season opener!  Getting primed!

Dad is going to drive for Hannah, Reed and I.  We are hoping to post some GIANTS on here tomorrow.

It's been a little breezy today..may hurt visability and may not make for a nice boat ride if they were going to that big lake I like to fish..hope you guys had a nice safe trip.

Today was a CHALLENGE!

Started off by locking the keys in the truck at the boat basin...No biggie for us, because my sister came and unlocked it while we went fishing.  Thanks, sis!

The wind made it hard to see and the gar were DEEP.  We weren't on the lake, Robert, but we were on an adjoining body of water. The water was clear and in between the gusts we could see gar on the bottom between 12 and 20 feet deep.  I actually shot at a few and the arrow had lost so much momentum it didnt even penetrate.  There were some MONSTERS in there, but they were happy to stay down.  Every once in a while they would surface as gar do, but they never seemed to be in the right place.

To top it off a fuse blew in the control ( I hope that is what it was) and the trim and ignition went out.  We were forced to go back upriver about three miles against a strong current with a trolling motor that we had used all morning.     :campfire:

We had fun anyway.

Here are a few pics:

Gregg I used to run the Oklawaha river every week..I always went up stream just in case...back then a 36 lb trolling motor was a big one and would notwork well going upstream. , I am looking at a 80lb thrust trolling motor for my skiff. Glad y'all had a good time. Maybe next time they will be on top..

Over&Under

Great pictures Gregg!  Excellent showcase of the place you were hunting.

Great shooting Reed, that is not a big target~!

Thanks for the bird Id, Jack!

Robert, my dad's trolling motor is of the 36lb top of the line vintage...It was definately a slow trip back!

Thanks all for the comments on pictures.  It takes a while to load them and it is nice to know they are appreciated.

the warbler in question is a prothonotary. see them a lot near water, as they like to eat insects off the surface. one of the prettiest warblers out there.
