I am new to SC and I've always wanted to make some cane arrows. Does anyone know where I can harvest some in the Colombia, SC area? Or, am I just going to have to break down and buy some?

I harvested about a hundred shafts in West Tennessee not far from the Tennessee River in some overgrown bottom land.  For South Carolina, find some creeks or rivers in some lowlands I would think.

However, this time of year may not be the best for harvesting since I think winter would be ideal.

I remembered reading the base should be about 3/8", but what's the next step?  There must be a site on steps in making them, huh?

Good luck in your search and have fun.

I know those southeastern Indian tribes gave the early Spanish explorers heck with cane arrows' ability to penetrate.

Mark, Looks like we still need to get together and shoot some!
Cane is everywhere down here. I'd be glad to help you find some. It is predomanantly in the flood areas around creeks and rivers.

After Benjy gave me a handful, I'm a believer that he is the cane man. Only problem is he didn't straighten 'en, put feathers on, and maybe one or two of those rocks he makes into arrerheads. Oh, yeah, thanks again Benjy (you don't have to read that middle part).
