Have only used a few times but they fly good for me and are very water proof.

Have hunted with nothing but goose feathers for many years.Fly just as good as turkey, but do not seem to be as durable when I turn my hunting arrows into practice arrows after season is over.I build new hunting arrows for every new season..Love the natural water proof.

Pro. Free. You go feather hunting when they molt in your area. Fun for the kids too. Just go to any lake area where geese reside and collect feathers.

goose feathers

pros - free for the taking, extremely water resistant, easy to strip 'n' grind (huh? what'd i say?  :)  ), work and look great

cons - dark color hard to track in flight but tracers can help

I'm about to give them a try.  I have a friend who presented me with a bag full of them.  Now to get them split and ground.

They are a good feather and as many have said you can go almost anywhere and find them.

Con they do not last very long compared to Turkey. You can wear out goose feathers in half the shots that a turkey feather will take.

Rob,Its so good for the rest of us the info you give.Kudus to you my friend.I've never tried goose feathers and I have access to millions.Lots of my friends are avid goose hunters here in Swift Current,I'll have to give them a try.
Quote from Howard Hill.( Whenever he taught someone to shoot) "Son make up your mind right now if you want to target shoot or hunt as theres a world of differance between the two"

Stepping on those little green cigar butts is a hazard of collecting them! They take a lot of work but the price is right.

It's tricky to find a good section of the feather where the quill isn't too fat or too thin. I use a 3" chopper so I'll get at least one good, sometimes 2 fletches from a feather. Three fletch is ok with 3", but 4 is more stable. For broadheads I stick with 5" turkey. I'll also use turkey for a cock feather with the goose.

I have used them  off and on for many years  I Like them  but as mentioned above  not quite as durable as Turkey for continous shooting . I Like the colour   I like  the water proof feature   I have spliced some  white swan  or  snow goose  pieces to the back  for visibility  a few times    use a bright nock and crest now
