Gold Tip 3555 footing question

I want to build some dedicated stumpin' arrows and will be using GT 3555 Exp. Hunters and Trad arrows. What size aluminums do you GT shooters foot your 3555's with? What type epoxy? I have JB Weld and Devcon 5 minute epoxy already. Thanks.

The Devcon 20 minute set, 2 hours handle, overnite cure type epoxy has always done well for me.

2219s have worked well for me as have 2117s, 2219s seems a bit better fit. The long curing epoxy is not as brittle when it sets up and seems to hold up better for me too! Shawn

I used 2117 shafts and they are smug!
Only thing you have to do is sand for 5-10 seconds with 400 grit sandpaper where the footing is going to get a rougher surface, smear a thin coat of epoxy and slide it on!
Also, I like to leave a little epoxy behind the tube to get a smoother transition between the carbon and aluminum, which makes it easier to pull out of targets.
Also, it can be smart to deburr the alu slightly

Why not foot them internally? I use a 4" long .25" wood dowell epoxied behind the brass insert.That way I keep my small diameter for penetration!

Seems like alot of people workin' up stumpin' arrows this Spring (Myself included!)
2117 seems to be the ticket for GT 3555's, although they do seem a little snug to me.(Perhaps a little shaft sanding as Svein D said)
Never really considered an internal footing for stumpin', not real concerned w/ penetration, just tired of bustin my arrows on hard hit.

My luck with internal footings had not been good, the point still shove up into the shaft and splits it, the wood dowel also adds quite a bit more weight than an aluminum footing as well. Shawn

Has anyone tried using the 50gr brass inserts instead of footing? Once I put the brass inserts in I haven't had a shaft mushroom on me yet.

I use 50 gr. brass inserts on most of my set-ups,(GT trads)for some FOC. Before footing, a hard hit, when stumping or just plain missin' would sometimes produce a real nice "flower" on the point end of my arrow shafts!
So now I am footin' all my stumpin' arrows w/ 1-1/4" of 2117 behind my inserts. Just my experience, YMMV.

I use the 100 gr. insert and still had some Flower out. I also use a 2216 over the insert and up the shaft with high impact instant gorilla glue.

Inserts wont stop the shaft splitting. I haven't tried internal footing, but in my brain that does not prevent it too much either, on account of the force of impact pushing the insert back, making the more brittle carbon "get out of the way" outwards.. Then again, I can't say for sure..

The dowell weights 25 grns and doesnt change anything.I also use 50 & 100 grn inserts.I have NOT had one break yet and people that know me & Jose at 3D shoots,do some crazy shootin!! The first test I did wit them,I shot a patio block and the third arra broke it at 15 yds.Only thing that happened to the arras was the pts were flattened.All my arras I use loctite prof. HD 5 min epoxy.I wont shoot carbons without it!
