Canned or smoked, at the price of food nowadays all that protein would shave a lot of $ off the grocery bill...    :biglaugh:

I think canning or smoking some would be time well spent.

I agree with Ron...canned up and made into patties carp are "good eats".

Just raw pack chunks of fish (small bones left in)into quart jars...press down and leave 1/2" space at top...1/2 tsp. salt (optional)...don't add water (makes it's own juice)

Medium snug down lids and rings...process at 12 pounds pressure for 90 minutes. Let cool.

Drain 1 qt. fish...mix in 2 eggs / 1 pkg. hand crushed saltine crackers / some fine diced onions.
Brown in greased fry pan over med / high flame.

Enjoy!

dont think i can handle eating any kind of carp. i have tried gar, fried, it was ok but not the best.

Doc Nock

brings back memories of the Oak Plank and horse Manure receipe for baking carp!  :)

Did know some folks that kept them live ina  spring house like snapping turtles for a week or so to clean the mud taste out and they liked them...      "[dntthnk]"

Carbonkiller, I don't like gar either...but the carp taste like canned salmon patties.

Doc Nock, I think the oak plank gives the horse manure a funny taste. lol
Only use carp or buffalo when the water is still real cold...makes all the difference.

Gar are some of my favorites especially those gator gar in the 4-6ft length.
Come on down to Guntersville that weekend, I will be there from Thursday evening till Sun, always love to meet some fellow trad gangers.  We will be staying at the Day's Inn in Guntersville and will be at the Lurleen B. Wallace pavilion on Fri, sat and sunday.
They'll be no quitters till we bag us some critters!

Carbonkiller

sounds good!i'll be there as long as my wife isnt in labor:)

yeah gar are by far my favorite fish to shoot...doesnt matter if its big spotted gar or big longnose....and one day i hope to chase some gator gar.
