When I first started shooting trad I liked 5.5" sheilds on my wood arrows. But these days I don't really have a preference,I shoot 4-4",4-5" and 3-5" in parabolic and bannna style. And I shoot both LW and RW,it's what I have on hand when making up some new arrows or redoing some old ones.I spend more time tuning my arrows and then most fletching will shoot just fine.I like burn my feathers and use some die cuts.

I've got 3, 4, and 5's.  I try to go with the smallest that gets good flight with 2 blade broadheads for that bow.

There are some very good reasons to use as small as possible for good flight when you hunt in the windy areas I do.  It's nice to have the arrow flying with as little drift as possible.

Years ago I used 5 1/2 inch high back parabolic and shield cut feathers.  I than moved to high back 5 inch.  Now I pretty much stick with the standard 5 inch.  Most of today's bows are cut to center and have radiused shelves so they tend to tune better than bows 25 years ago, so there's not as much need for the larger feathers.

Started with 3 fletch 5"RW parabolic, after learning how to bare shaft tune 4" parabolic 3 fletch rw.
