The jack rabbits are rutting out here and you can call in the bucks buy using lip squeeks and a predatore call . with the call just make soft meow type sounds . Not sure what they think but it works. This guy was almost in my lap had to take a long ten yard shot.

.A few years back was out calling coyotes and a jack came in ,got me thinking .
You can hop but you can't hide.
If it was not for rabbits I would never get a buck.

There are a few people here in Aus. that call in hares.  Saw a video where the hares were coming like they were on a leash, pretty cool.  Great shooting, BTW!

Nice, I like your bright arrows.

An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backward. So when life is dragging you back with difficulties, it means that it's going to launch you into something great.

Roy,

I don't know the California rules but in Idaho, we can kill jack rabbits year round - no season, no limits.  They are considered varmints and are very prolific.  Like other hares or rabbits, populations are cyclical with highs and lows.

In years past, there were so many, big round ups occurred with drivers pushing them into pens to be clubbed by the those waiting.  They can do a lot of damage to vegetation - natural and crop lands.

Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing. TGMM ♥

I thought rabbits just stayed in rut..
Nice shot and an interesting story and technique.

Thank you Ray_G!

I never thought about how they would classified as varmints.

We have a very few Jacks or Swamp rabbits left in Missouri.

We currently don't have a posted season on Jacks and a  possession limit of 2 Swamp rabbits during it's season.

I can't even imagine having any type game that was so over populated that they could be herded.

Thanks again!
