So I'm trolling through that one auction site and come across these R/D longbows from the above bowyers, model is called Red Stag. They're taking bids with a buy now of $350, don't know how to tell if there's a reserve or not.  One could be getting a decent bow at a nice low bid.  Picture sure does look purdy, but don't want to make that leap without a little "guidance". Anyone ever hear of these guys or better yet, shoot one of their bows?   :help:

Never heard of the bowyer but it looks halfway decent. At least as much as you can tell from pictures.
But I don't think $350 constitutes a "nice low bid."
Just my opinion...

Well it looks like its a fresh post, so the starting bid is .99, sure it won't stay there for long.  Just thinking of the potential of winning on a low bid.  Yeah if I was ready to buy at $350, I'd be looking at some of our sponsors here first.

TradDad,

I have bought and sold bows on Auction sites. Mostly, with success. However, if you get a bum steer, you have little recourse.

If I may suggest, you can find many good deals on this site. And the TG Brotherhood will stand behind each other.

My humble opinion.

Thanks Matt, you pretty much summed up my thoughts.  I had that funny feeling you sometimes get in the pit of your stomach.  I've been looking for a starter longbow at or under $100, think I just got carried away with the "what-ifs". :knothead:

I'll go back to my original plan and keep my eye out on our classifieds here.

BTW, to Matt and the rest of the crew here I just gotta say... You guys ROCK!

Joshua, you could also peruse the trad 3D shoots for something you like.
There's a great shoot coming up April 9-10 up near Solvang. There's bound to be new and used longbows available at the shoot.
PM me if you need details on the Chamberlin Ranch shoot.

I just found out about Chamberlin the other day, unfortunately I already have a couple of basic firearms classes I'm teaching that weekend.  From the read, it sounds like a great shoot.  I'll keep those in mind too, thanks Guy.

Too bad, that's the best shoot of the year.
Another local trad 3D is in Simi Valley on May 7-8.
