Good reminder, it can save a life. Last year we had low tick populations around here where we usually are infested. Hopefully this year will be the same.

No matter how hard I look, I always seem to get bit at least once a season. Was out stumping yesterday after work and pulled about 2 or 3 off me, no bites though!

Great advise, and often over looked.

I've pulled 6 real little..smaller than bird shot off me, so far. Last yr I know I pulled way over 50 off...could have been 100 I stopped counting. Every time I would go out in the yard to shoot bow or anything they jump on me. In the woods you are continually pulling them off as you walk.

Now that I think of it I probably got Lime Disease. I got just about all of the symptoms..just looked them up. SYMPTOMS .

I thought it was my heart causing all the quick fatigue, etc. and probably is I'd planned on seeing my cardiologist this Mon. anyway to see if I need more stints. Spring gobbler season is only about 3wks and I can't go 25 feet without having to lean against a tree.

Ticks are one of the filthiest creatures in nature and they're almost everywhere. You can't turn your back on checking yourself for these things....the consequences are too great.

I grew up in Mississippi during the 50's and 60's and at that time the state was literally plagued by fire ants. There were massive air campaigns to kill them off I think that those programs did a lot to reduce their numbers but they're still very prolific and you have to watch your step constantly.

One of the things that I have noticed though is that in areas where there are fire ants the tick numbers aren't so great and I believe those little red monsters must be responsible for killing a lot of ticks. I'd rather have the fire ants anyday....anyday.

Good reminder. I can't wait until it applies to me...still plenty of snow around here. The sun is out and it's warm though, lot's of melting going on. Those darn ticks can be pretty thick in the early spring.

I don't believe the idea that only certain species of ticks transmit certain diseases. A parasitologist I know 'thinks' all ticks can transmit any of the diseases we've been talking about...fwiw.

I found My first of the season afetr stumping today. The trail was 1/2 snow and the tick still found me.

I saw my 1st snake of the season too.

2 years in a row bit by ticks and on 2week cycies of antibiotics.Already have picked a few off me this year.Sawyers is great product to spray on your clothes to keep the little buggers at bay.

Nasty little buggers! Yes we do have them in Utah just not as many as some places. I don't see many above the 7000 ft mark unless there is sheep in the area.

Thanks for the reminder. I get bitten at least once a year, sometime more. I still have a scare on my leg from last year where I dug one out by myself. Luckily, I didn't get any ill effects from it. They have been real bad the last few years. Got to take more precautions that's for sure.

A real hairy friend of mine is terrified of deer ticks. he can never find them, his wife wanted to dehair his whole body, the hard way. He ended up with two bald patches where he could find ticks and that was it for that plan.
They are probably natures eugenicists, they are controlling the herd. Tick talk always reminds me of that line from "Robinhood Men In Tights". Said to the sheriff, "Your mole moved" and the sheriff says "I have a mole?".

The last time I was in tick heaven I was grouse hunting in N. Wisconsin. After 2-3 hours in the woods I picked 16 ticks off of me and my clothes. That night I took all my hunting clothes out in the motel parking lot and sprayed everything down with Repel Permanone spray. The next day I never had a tick on me while my buddy was picking the little buggers off of himself all the way home.

With turkey season just around the corner it's time to treat everything again.

Yep, got 2 off me this week after the Hog Hunt....A REMINDER.. A Doctor on a hunt with us in South Texas said....ONCE THE LITTLE THING THINGS GET ATTACHED TO YOU...THE BEST WAY TO REMOVE THEM IS to COVER THEM WITH..NEOSPORIN....IN ABOUT 45 MINUTES THE LITTLE SOB WILL LET GO AND CAN IN MOST CASES BE SAFETLY REMOVE. It has worked for me.

I have been fighting chronic fatigue and joint pain for nearly 10 years . About 8-9 years ago I went to a doc and I suspected Lyme . Test was inconclusive , not enough for the insurance to pay for IV antibiotics ....I have read that oral antibiotics wont cut it for a long term lyme infection..... My fatigue and joint pain have continued ever since . I have been to several docs and no one wants to put much into the lyme idea , but they have no answers for me .

Last month I had an appointment with a rheumatologst(sp ? ) and he p'd me off from the minute he walked into the room . He was plain arrogant and rude and told me that lyme , fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue were not even real worries ( in fact he said chronic fatigue doesnt even exist )and I walked out of his office . I have an appointment with another one next month . I have been living at about half speed for 10 years and no one seems to know why .

My friends wife has advanced lyme disease.She was misdiagnosed for years before they figured out what she had.I urge everyone to take precautions when goin to the woods.Since I started sprayin my clothes with Sawyers I haven't had any problems.
