Well as you all can read it that time of the year to get out in the nicer weather and start stumping and scouting. Just a reminder to take the necessary steps for the tick prevention for you and your hunting buddies(dogs). Don't want the Lyme.     :readit:            :campfire:

My recommendation is Sawyers for us humans works great.

Just found 2 on my right thigh after the TBOF shoot in Ocala 2 weeks ago! Knew they were out there and looked but these two buggers must have been hiding inside the legs of my Jeans. Didn't find them till after arriving home from the weekend shoot.
My wife was unimpressed.

Ticks can also transmit ehrlichiosis and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever to people.

I've already picked 5 off of me. They are starting early this yr.

I ordered DurationTM Permethrin 10% Concentrate from Amazon which claims to be the only EPA registered permethrin 10% concentrate approved for use on clothing.  It is intended for use as a soak but I'm going to delute it to .5% and use it as a spray like Sawyers.  It is $30 for 8 oz.  Mixed 20 to 1 it will make 168 oz of .5% spray or equal to 7 of the 24 oz bottles of Sawyers. Thats $30 vs $90.

Tics were terrible here last yr. and I'm not going to fool around with them this yr.

I was out today here in southern Indiana the little buggers were not out yet but they will be.
I would really like to here why the ticks are so bad.  I have been hunting for over fifty years and up until about 10 to 15 years ago I hardly ever got a tick.  Now we have three different varieties and they are lousy. WHY????????????????????????

Rebel Yelp

I remember hearing tick population is on the rise in Virginia because snake populations are down. When ticks hatch they rely on small rodents. I think there is some truth to this.

I wear lightweight hiking pants when I'm outdoors. I'm taking your advice and investing in a spray.

My brother died in 1975, at the age of 14 from a Tick bite. He got Rocky Mountain Spotted fever. The Docs mis-diagnosed it as Scarlet Fever since it was rare, by the time they figured it out it was too late. He'd be 50 now.

Ticks are bad news, be safe out there folks!

Shot for the first time since January today, and sure enough, pulled a tick off me shortly after.

I have been tromping the areas around where I live in N.E. lower Michigan for 30 years. Until a few years ago, the only ticks I have ever encountered were on dogs.

In the last 3 years, I have had to remove at least one tick per summer. Even though it might be only ONE, that makes it a 100% increase!

Still 8 inches of snow in the woods around me though.

I have to take it back after I posted I found a deer tick.  I have already had lyme disease and it is no treat.  The doctors said don't worry it is rare and the first test came back negative but I had all the symptoms except the red ring.  So told the doctor that on the internet it said that the test want not conclusive unless one was in the later stages of the disease and ask if the antibiotic treatment could hurt me.  He said no the antibiotic would not hurt me so I said start the treatment.  It took about three weeks before I saw any signs of getting better and at the end of six weeks I was back to my old self.  I then had a reoccurrence about a year later.

I may have not been clear on the different type of ticks that we now.  The one that I said migrated from the souths four different species we now have.

One last thought, it is said that all life forms have a purpose in our environment, can anyone tell me what purpose ticks, chiggers, and mosquitos serve in our environment other than just being a nuance and mince to humans. Maybe I am over looking something or maybe they made a mistake when they said all life forms here on earth have a purpose.  Who ever they are.

Knapper, it brings you and the wife closer after the hunt when she has to look for them and pick them off you.

I ran around the woods as a kid all the time about every day. never had a tick on me. Had one on me about five years ago and now they are evrywhere you can about watch them crawling up your pant leg every time you look down while you are sitting. It makes it hard to enjoy the woods when your not used to them. John
