Gary, I've been told many times not to pass one the first day that you'd be happy with the last but this year I did it twice. My SD antelope hunt I passed a good one on day one and then shot another luckily later got one. I waited 3 yrs to get an Ia tag and after seeing trial cam pics of some really large bucks the first day passed on a good 140 class. Ater sitting many days and watching many bucks come by I finally got my shot and missed. I still have the late season coming so maybe it will work out. Glad you had a fun trip!

I learned that same lesson last year Wayne on a deer. I shot a deer and thought i made a good shot.  The string went out and stopped so i thought he was dead.  I decided to hunt awhile longer so i took the tradtracker off my bow and laid it outside my blind.  About an hour later my buddy and i got out of the blind.  The first thing i noticed was my tracker was gone.  We had heard some deer snorting earlier in the direction my deer had run so figured he would be dead in that direction.  Long story short, we found his final bed about 100 yards away...dark red blood in a goodly amount.  Never found him and assumed he was liver shot.  :dunno:

Yep, gunbarreling aka aiming the arrow.  This can work well for SHORT distances and a 3FU string grip will get the full arrow length under the eye for point aiming.  Form is still important, and screwups typically occur by not having a solid in-yer-face anchor point, thus giving left POI arrows.

Not an expert and reading mostly for affirmation and to make sense of some things that worked for me and why...
As stated, repositioning your head worked for me.  It was more like gun-barreling a front and rear sight.  After a while I didn't even realize it anymore unless past 22yds or so, I couldn't help but see the arrow more.
Even if you hate shooting like that, try it as an experiment.  I've never micro-tuned for long distance, but you might be a 5 grain collar, or a couple wraps of electrical tape away from a fix?  Maybe some YT videos from Olympic archers on walkback tuning.

PowWow / StringTracker User Error. Lea...
Last post by Wile E. Coyote - Today at 09:51:49 AM
This past weekend I was hunting from a ground blind when a Grey Fox came loping along and offered me a shot at about 12 yds. He was positioned so that I could shoot through the manufactures hole in the shoot thru screen. I had my Trad Tracker attached and watched as the arrow sped off with the orange string trailing effortlessly behind. The hit looked good, the fox spun and yipped, then flopped down.

I still had about 30 minutes of hunting light left and thought I may still see a hog or deer before dark, so I decided retrieve the fox to the blind. The fox had been motionless for a few minutes, I could see his legs but the remainder of his body was obscured by grass. I cut the Trad Tracker string and exited the blind. Then I heard the "tink tink" of my arrow on rocks and by the time I came around the blind he was gone.  :knothead:

There was a good sized puddle of blood, no gut material, but no air bubbles. I surmise he was hit in the liver.
The Trad Tracker would have done its job save for my error. Lesson learned, don't cut your string until you recover your animal.

PowWow / Re: What weight point?

Gotcha.  Wish I had some Simmons but NO...NO MORE, I tell myself. I have some old Magnus 2 blade Nugents I might serrate and make adapters to fit my weight. They're 130 as-is with the Al adapter.  Did you consider inserts with threaded backs?  One of my combos for ins+point is 265gr, and can use a stock insert + 50gr weight. (hold on, check my math here), and gets me to a 200 point.  Either way, seems to be more options for light weight inserts than I remember a few years ago??  175 should be pretty attainable with the right insert for your length.

PowWow / Arrow Wraps
Last post by BAbassangler - Today at 06:05:39 AM
Anyone ever see extra long wraps, like 14" or so?
I ask because I have shafts that have painted logos, and spine with 250 points.  Clean off the paint off and they spine with 235.  I like the 250's and the paint is not terrible, but doesn't line up with my spine/nock tune.  Just trying to keep the same weight/spine.

I reread my posts and while it was all true, I have to say overall it also was one of the best hunting experiences of my life. Spending a week hunting with a guy I've been friends with since the early 1960's.

Towards the end of the week I commented to Ken that I knew he was always putting me in the best stands, and he didn't have to do that. He replied "well you spent quite a bit of money to come all the way down here and hunt with me".

Bottom line is it was a wonderful week and I have been richly blessed to be able to experience this camaraderie.

Lord willing, maybe one more time, the two old farts will get to share the woods again.
"Where did he go now?"

Might have to break down and get a Full Shot glove, to go with the others.
