I used an unusual method of finding where bears go and atracting them-when I still had a place to hunt them.  I took grease from variuos cooking sources, heated it up and mixed in sawdust. Placed where needed, the bears would be attracted to the grease-#1 and then the scat let me know the general area they roamed in#2.  Have you tried burning honey?  In canyons it put out a powerful sweet smell.  Tin foil full, a lit candle under and a long wait.  Even that black acrid smoke at the end did not seem to deter them.
Might be legal in your state...if so try one or two of them

Bacon works really well and so does strawberry jello powder.

A couple of guys that I hunted ontario bears with used fruit loops as well.

Good luck, shoot straight and God bless,

woodchucker

"Woodchucker's Liquid Bear Bait"
1 Bottle of cheap pancake syrup
1 Jar of cheap honey
1 Large bottle of vanilla extract
1 Large bottle of anise

Empty ingredients into a sauce pan & warm over low heat, while stirring to mix well. Do Not overheat! Using a funnel, pour the warm contents back into the syrup bottle & put leftover into another container.

Pour liquid bait over rotten stumps or logs within range of your stand. Bears will tear the logs & stumps apart looking for the grubs, beetles, insects, living inside.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!
I only shoot WOOD arrows... My kid makes them, fast as I can break them!

I use anise or vanilla . When using the anise, I cut cotton strips and put them in a ziplock bag. Swap the strips in and out when tending bait sites . I also use real vanilla. I put a quart of the vanilla in a small hand held lawn sprayer with two quarts of water. I then spray the bait area . Donuts are the main bait I use. Hope this helps !

In the fall, blueberry, acorns and apples lastly.  In the spring grass and clover.
