First in my 70's

Hot Hap

I turned 71 on Sep.29. Last night I was successful in taking a doe. It was the first deer in my 70's. I went out about 3pm and found the wind was bad for where I wanted to hunt. I went to an area about 200 yds further and figured to just do a little scouting and watching along a creek. I found a bag chair that washed up from the last flood built a small ground blind and settled in for the evening.

About a half hour before sunset a spike buck and a doe crossed the creek and came walking by at about 15-17 yds. I had never hunted from a bag chair before so while waiting I had been drawing my bow a few times, and thought I would have no problem. The doe offered me a nice shot, so I took it. The chair wasn't as easy to shoot out of as I thought and the string hit my bicep and the arrow fell short.

I was sitting in the chair thinking about what happened and after about 15 minutes I got up to look for my arrow. I looked behind me and there stood a doe at about 15 yds. She was slightly quartering to me and the arrow hit about 4" left of aim point. It went in the front of the shoulder and the exit was behind the off shoulder.

She went straight up in the air, hooves were 4 to 4 1/2 feet off the ground. She ran less than 50 yds. and piled up. It wasn't very big, maybe 65#, but thanks to my son for dragging and gutting her after 2 weeks of 12-14 hr days.

Sorry no pictures. I have tried to register with photobucket 3-4 times but am no good at tech.

Way to go, seniors are still getting it done.
The essence of the hunt for me is to enter nature and observe+ return safely occasionally with the gift of a life taken.

Shot a five pointer last winter bow and took a doe during this year's early NJ season. I'm 71 and even though I'm getting older, IT never gets old. Congrats Hap. Ain't it great to be able to do this at our age?   :clapper:
