Aluminum arrows what size?
« on: August 29, 2015, 09:52:00 PM »
I'm shooting a 59x31 r/d longbow.I pull to 31"...what alum shaft should I buy? And could I shoot the same arrow out of a recurve that's a couple or three pounds heavier?
Thanks

2219, 2315, 2317, or 2419 depending on length and point weight.

I shoot 32" 2419's with 175 points from my 68# @ 31" limbs on my recurve.  I used to shoot 2317's out of my 61# @ 31" limbs from the same bow, with roughly the same length and point weight.

The 2419's seem like they should be too stiff, but I've heard (and found to be true) that long draws can weaken shafts more than one might expect.
Life is a whole lot easier when you just plow around the stump.

If you find a good setup for the longbow, you may be able to add weight to the same shafts (by putting weed-eater line inside them, for example), which would stiffen them up for your heavier recurve.

Thanks Archie,  How much does that 2419 with the 175pt weight?

I just weighed some arrows for you... here's what I've got, all with 175-grain points:

2419: 32", 701 grains
2317: 31.5", 652 grains
2317:  35", 700 grains

Thanks Archie, those should bring down pretty much anything in N. America.
Thanks again

Yep, everything but the national debt!

I think they'd probably take down nearly any other critter on the other continents too.  But I just shoot them because I like the heavy limbs, and that's the shaft/setup that works.  I don't see a tag for buffalo or Nyala anywhere in my future!

2216 good weight and handles a wide range of bow weights and draw lengths.
