MAGNUS STINGER OR BUZZCUT??

I WAS LOOKING AT SHOOTING A MAGNUS STINGER BROADHEAD THIS SEASON. I WAS WONDERING IF THE BUZZCUT WOULD PENETRATE AS WELL AS THE ORIGINAL?

My pick would be the regular Stinger, but I have read guys posts on here who love the buzzcuts as well. As a sharpening challenged individual, I will stick with the smooth blades instead of the serrated ones.

Yep, what Bisch said. I have used both though and the buzz cut seems to penetrate just as well.

I shot both in my compound days...I think the smooth penetrates just a tad better in my experience. Good choice either way though!

I am just the opposite. I prefer the buzzcut as I believe it cuts a bigger entry hole because of the serrations, but like the rest I think either one will get the job done. This deer was taken with a 150 gr. buzzcut. Check out the size of the entry hole. I believe the serrations pull the flesh into the cutting edge of the blade thus making a larger hole. That is the same principal and reason Fred Bear always sharpened his broadheads with a file.

Stingers are easy to sharpen, so they were my pick.

I like the buzzcut. Pass through on a bull moose in Newfoundland, albeit with a wheelie. No reason to think I can't achieve the same results on a whitetail. Haven't tried to sharpen one though. Have enough of them that I haven't had to. I'm sure the stingers will do the job too.

I like buzzcuts, they sharpen same as regular head, the serrations aren't like the ones on a knife, they are more like a little tiny section of single bevels. Sharpening the main edge automatically sharpens the serrations. If I hadn't switched to the Cutthroat Single Bevels, the buzzcut is what I would still be using!

I use a lanskey to sharpen my buzzcuts. Like old goat said, just sharpen them the same as a regular head.

You do NOT sharpen the chisel serrations on the Buzzcuts, you just sharpen the same way that you would sharpen the Stingers. As old_goat2 says they sharpen as well when you sharpen the main bevel.
My Buzzcuts are sticky sharp...so are my Stingers. This is my first season I may be using them, always positive feedback Re: both.
Magnus is an excellent company with Mike Sohm at the helm.

If you go to the Magnus website they have a good instructional video on how to sharpen the buzzcuts. He likes the Lansky type of sharpeners. You sharpen the main edge like normal, and then take a serrated stone that looks like a vee,and go to the next higher level, and do the front of the serration to square it up.

Here's the link to the video. I just now read the original question. These things tend to get off course, but figured you might want to see the video anyhow.
I sure couldn't see why you would get that much better penetration with one or the other.

A serrated edge just keeps on cutting. It cuts tough blood vessels better than a straight edge and stays cutting sharp longer. I make my own "LaClair Lacerators"

I have shot stingers for many years. They are a great head. I have also shot the buzz cut. They will do it as well.

This is one of my favorite pictures, first big game trad kill and first archery deer in general, 4 blade Buzzcut, arrow is 32" long so you can get an idea how far into that solid frozen ground the arrow went! Would a Stinger went as far, I imagine it would be real close or maybe farther, don't know, both good heads as mentioned!
