Here is a video I did on how to strop broadheads and knives.
Its That Time Of Year!

Thank you for this, very helpful. I can get an OK edge on my broadheads with a file, but this looks to be the way to get a shaving sharp edge.

I'll be doing some stropping this afternoon
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

The blue jean tip is crazy!!  Who knew!  Gonna have to try that for sure!  Thanks for the video.

Mr. fingers

Thanks great video.
I'm going, try my hand at sharpening Zwickey  vs woodsman which. Ever one I can get sharpened sharper and easier gets to ride in my quiver this year

Glad you guys like the video. Stropping is a important part of getting heads sharp in my opinion yet is a simple process that doesn't require anything special to do.

Yep, gonna have to try the pants leg trick.
Sam

Just tried it out and WOW!!!
Tried my Zwickey ( first time sharpening them)
Took me a little longer than I liked to get it hair popping sharp. I tried the woodsman which was already pretty sharp and the pant leg did bring it to a new level. So I tried a Zwickey again and I think I got the hang of it got it hair poppin sharp in no time just using a file a jewel stick a leather strop and finished it off with my wranglers
Thanks again for the tip.

Awesome video!!! I just got my KME knife sharpener today & I'm off work tomorrow, sooooo, I'll be doing broad heads & knifes all day. Plan on finishing them off on the blue jeans. Thanks a bunch. Great info for your fello tradgangers.

Where do you guys buy your leather for stropping and how wide do you prefer it?
BD

I buy mine from Tandy leather. I get 2" and about 4 feet of it and it can be cut into smaller pieces as you need it.

In all truthfulness lately I have not used leather to strop. I just did 50 broadheads and 6 hunting knives to get myself, wife and kids ready for this season and I did like this:
Belt sander to set andgle and get sharp. Then use a ceramic rod for a few back strokes to remove wire edge. Then strop on long piece of card board, then quick finish strop on my jeans. Sharpest heads I have ever made and I did 50 of them in about 2 hours total.

NEVER would have thought about trying my jeans....but I will tonite...

Thanks!

I knew about the cardboard/leather stropping but not the blue jeans. I'm going to try it right now.

Okay, I just tried it on a Zwicky Eskimo. I grabbed one I had already file sharpend to the point where I could shave with it, but only if I pressed pretty hard. So I stropped it on a leather shooting glove, then did the blue jean trick. AMAZING! I could shave perfectly, smooth, down to the skin with no pressure. If I had to I could shave my face with it. How/where did you come up with using your pants? Such a simple, fast thing that makes an incredible difference. Thanks!

about 25 years ago i was trying to get tree sap off my knife at a shotgun range and i was rubbing it on my pant leg and a guy walked by and said "were did you learn that trick" I said what trick im cleaning my knife. He said "rubbing your blade like that on blue jeans will make it super sharp!" Been using it ever since!

Great tip, just tried it and it works great.

BD

So with a 3 blade do you strop side to side on jeans or pull it straight back?

Thanks

You can also use the top of your truck/car window - roll it down, and use the smooth ground top edge of the window like a crock stick when you are out in the field....it works.
