Got out for a fine evening sit.  The acorns are really coming down now on the saddle I was watching.  I didn't see any deer but I now know that I at least have a great squirrel hunting spot.

That's a big-headed trophy doe.  Bet she picked off many a sloppy hunter before you took her. Congrats.

Nice doe. Cant wait to get into the woods. I haven't had an opportunity to hunt yet. To many irons in the fire.

I walked up on a doe last evening at sunset about 60 yards from the house (we live in the middle of thousands of acres of hardwood forest)  and circled downwind and snuck up to about 30 yards, but it was an uphill shot with small limbs in the way, so I let her walk and continued on my way. Good thing:my wife told me that all deer, bear and turkey on our property are "pets" and off-limits.

How many of you guys and gals are located around hendersonville? I spent the weekend up there and the acorns were dropping in multitudes and I found a ton of sign. Just wondering how many mountain hunters we have here!

Pat B

I live in Brevard, about 30 miles west of H'ville. Our mast crop is very light here this year after a bumper crop last year.
I'll be heading to GA this weekend for my first hunt of the season.

Im just outside Asheville, 25 miles north of Hendersonville, and I've got acorns, hickory and  and beechnuts falling so hard it sounds like hail sometimes. Some of the red oak acorns are so big they sound like somebody's rapping on the door when they hit the roof. I had a mama bear with four cubs come by for a long visit Sunday,  and she was vacuuming up acorns like it was Thanksgiving dinner.

I am an hour or so west of H'ville.  I have seen a lot of acorns dropping around 3600 ft and on south slopes.  Other areas have been a little spares.  Seems like an average crop out here for us.
