I started shooting bow sometime in grade school with an old fiberglass recurve. Shot bare bones. I got big enough to pull a Jennings Sidekick I think it was and I started down the training wheel lifestyle.  I've killed deer with various wheel bows and for some reason my childhood has come calling. I've been shooting a recurve and have had a blast. Last deer season I hunted in gun season with my black powder rifle. To some, it seems I'm regressing but I feel more of a progression in my life as a hunter. I'm approaching 40, raising kids and things are just different for me. So glad I've gotten back to my "roots" so to speak. Hopefully, a nice  young pink meated doe will allow me the honor of a shot with my stick and string and bring a smile to this WV hillbilly. Enjoying this life as a hunter and thank my creator for it.  God bless

I've often wondered if the members on this site who have been traditional shooters their entire lives can really appreciate how those of us who have been "reborn" so to speak, from the wheels to the traditional realm, feel about our rebirth.
I've been fortunate to have already taken a couple of deer last year WvForester, but know exactly how you feel. Welcome.

I think more of us on here have shot wheels than care to admit it.

Many of us would tell our traditional story the same way. Well said and I hope you stick your doe too.

I had the same experience. Something about the simplicity of a stick and string. Returning was something I'm very glad I did. Shot at the Eastern Ohio Rendezvous today and had a blast. You just don't get that with the wheel crowd. I was also to the point of losing interest after shooting lots of game for years and the way hunting is depicted on the TV shows is really a turn off. I am more back to my roots and over the scores of animals and the bragging rites. Maybe I'm just getting older and see the err of my ways. Hope you get that big fat doe this year. you'll love it.

It pleases me that those who have come over from the compound bow to traditional equipment are some of the finest shots with our simple weapons I've ever seen.

Elements of form are much easier to ingrain at the lighter holding weights of the wheel bows so it's under control when the switch is made... a good thing.

And yes, tradional bows are a gift from God.

I heard the Trad calling a few years ago and I'm so glad I answered! I haven't taken anything with a trad bow, but this year will be 100% trad as I've sold my compounds. No more crutches!

I to find myself doing things a little more simple, not easier but simple. I'm also not trying to purchase every gadget around but rather getting rid of a lot of "stuff" and am learning to just be satisfied with being out of doors. I love it!!

Welcome and enjoy the journey!

Yes, my story pretty much follows a lot of people here. My revelation was different, I realized I was not really that much better with wheels. I never could get into sights or a release. Bow came apart one day and while it was getting repaired I picked up my Bear SK and never shot that compound again.

Welcome from Pa.  10 yrs ago i had enough and vowed to never shoot a wheel bow again. I became a flyfishing mad man, i fished like crazy and then the bug hit me to get back into archery. Im on my third year shooting only traditional and im having a blast. I have no kills yet but the enjoyment i get out of it is like no other. Our time will come and it will be very special when it does. I will also say that all the traditional folks i meet are a bread of their own, good hearted people and willing to help anyone out and Tradgang is full of good folks willing to help out.. Good luck this season and enjoy hunting they way it was ment to be!!!    Gary
