You guys could probably tell me why I need to know. I've gotten a leatherman tool I need to make a sheath for as well as I want to put together a knife/file/stone set like Fred Bear used to sell. What size/weight leather would a fella want to use for such a endeavor? Thanks

Those pocket quivers would be a perfect project.
Just checked with Tandy's, and they have the craftsman shoulders back on sale for $30. I hope they have some left when get to town next Saturday.

cmh,
I made one for my Leatherman out of the 6-7 oz leather I had on hand. Seemed just about the right weight to me. I haven't finished it yet. Not entirely happy with some of the design decisions I made, but I know how I'll do the next one.
You might want to start a new topic with your question. I'm sure one of the experts will get you going on your project.

Cmh, like Chuck I've made a couple knife cases out 6/7oz. leather that worked out pretty well. I think 5/6oz. would also be alright. I don't think I would go lighter than that, but I'm no expert still learning myself. This one's out of 6/7oz. tried 7/8oz.. I t was just too stiff to make the bends

This is what I did for my leatherman:
I wet the leather to form it around the leatherman. Looked pretty good. Stitched it up and trimmed it. Wasn't paying to close attention and angled the blade a bit and cut close to the stitching on the back. Should of had more material to work with in the first place. Live and learn.
Also, I cut the belt slots in the back. I should have stitched on a belt loop.
Didn't think I'd show this off to anyone, but it is a good example of what not to do......

Nice work. Are you machine stitching or hand stitching? If machine, what brand do you use. Thanks, Mike

Lone Hunter,
I'm just hand stitching. I need to get a stitch groover to make things look better, and maybe try the two-needle method of stitching.
