On 12/2/14 I took down my first deer with a longbow. This deer was taken during the late private land deer rifle season.  I used my Yellowstone Half-Breed t/d longbow pulling 56@28 with 2117 aluminum arrows and 125 grain Zwickey broadhead with a 75 grain steel screw in adapter. The second day of the season I saw a really nice 5 point buck running a good sized doe.  I trialed them for about 200 yards through the tall sage.  They stopped and the doe looked my direction and knew something was off. I froze and the sand off lasted nearly 15 minutes, although it felt like an hour. The big buck, needing a break, bedded down as the doe finally went back to browsing.  I was able to sneak another ten yards closer and with the doe pre-occupied on some green weeds, I loosed an arrow.  It flew true and struck the deer behind her front shoulder. She was severely quarter towards me and I severed the hepatic artery and the femoral artery. The arrow made a complete pass through at 39 yards. She made it about 55 yards leaving a blood trail that Ray Charles could have followed. I was fortunate enough to hunt during the peak of the mule deer rut, and ending up seeing everything from small to large bucks fighting and does being run past my ground blind. It was a great hunt ending with a really nice doe to my credit, a freezer full of meat and some especially memorable experiences. Note my lack of orange was due to the fact that I was tagged out at the time the picture was taken.  I WAS definitely wearing orange while hunting, in ordnance with CO law. ]web page   ]web page
