I got an email from Jim today that said he is in the Philippines and lost his wallet and can't get back to the US. he asks for a loan so he can get back.

It seems like Jim's email has been hacked but I'm not sure.

Did anybody else receive this?

Hold onto to your money and don't be fooled. It happens all of the time, these scams.

Just got a reply from Jim. Good news he is not stuck in the Philipeans. Bad news his account was hacked so don't click on any of his emails.

Sorry to have this happen to such a good guy.

I got this email also. I believe that he needed a quick loan of $2,000 plus dollars to get out of a jam. We need stiff penalties for people doing this.

If it's in your way, move it.

Got an email from Jim as well. Yep, you want to ignore these emails. I've read stories of these phishing scams in a thread on a spearfishing forum where a woman's account had gotten hacked and similar messages had been received by her friends. What made it more alarming in that particular case is that she often traveled to exotic locations (like Philippines) for spearfishing trips.

It is always a scary thought to have accounts hacked... so much of our personal information is online and accessible to criminals. And with technology these days, malicious intentions have more powerful tools to wreak havoc.

So, if your account gets hacked, how do you fix it?  I've had the same yahoo email address for 20 years.

Ethical Redneck

I just received the email within the last few days. I've talked to Jim quite a few times over the years and knew this was a hack job. He's as stand up and legit as it gets.

Bill Kissner

If you get hacked, can't you just change your password?
Time spent alone in the woods puts you closer to God.

"Can't" never accomplished anything.

frank bullitt

Yep, just came here after checking email!

Seemed unreal since he didn't mention Katie!

But the business attachments....wow!

How deep could this go?

Archie

Just went to an FBI presentation on this very thing today.  It's going on all over the place, and we aren't able to make it go away.

Just change your password.  If you make it at least 9 digits, using upper and lower case letters, symbols, and numbers, you probably won't have it happen again.
Life is a whole lot easier when you just plow around the stump.
