Title says it all... looking for a well-built / modern version of the 1969 Super Kodiak. Not looking for an exact replica, just something that captures the look & feel, and performs well.
Can anyone recommend modern bowyers building this style bow? Not looking for super-exotics, etc. that will break the bank... this will be a working man's bow.
thanks for your replies!

I'd rather be judged by 12 then carried by 6

I just bought a 1964 Kodiak which is considered by many to be the best shooting bow that Bear ever produced...the riser is plain old bubinga not phenolic and rosewood but the profile and grip shape are very similar to the Super Kodiak...what I paid for it will certainly not break the bank...if you simply like the appearance of the 69 with phenolic and rosewood then you are going to have to pay a price...those materials do not end up being a part of a "working mans bow that will not break the bank" whether it be from Bear or a custom bowyer

I set out a while ago to reduce my herd of 40 bows...And I am finally down to 42

Other than buying an original, your best bet would be the new Super K. Bear is putting out in 2015. John McDonald in WI. makes a Super K. replica, but I've only seen it as a red stripe version, which puts it around 73 or 74.

Well, if your looking for a 69 Super Kodiak...

My best advice, would be to get on the putor and check out the auction sights. Prices are low right now, and it's a "buyer's market"!!!

If your looking for something "like" a 69 Super Kodiak.....

I would check out Bear's lineup!!! Lots of FINE bows, at resonable cost!!!!

Have you actualy ever shot a 69 Super K??? Just wondering because I'm a HUGE Bear fan!!!!! There are so many fine old bows out there, from so many years... I honestly can not pick a "favorite"!!!!!

Bottom line is, I'm a Grizzly Man. I've got a few of them from differant years, and love them all! Buy "old" favorite, was a 1967 that I used for a while & killed a Buck with the 1st year I hunted with it. However... last year, I found a pair of 50# 1972 Grizzlys, The are my son Tyler & I's currant hunting bows. I killed a Buck with my 72 last year and I honestly have to say... It's my "Favorite"!!!!!
I only shoot WOOD arrows... My kid makes them, fast as I can break them!

There is a fine line between Hunting, & Sitting there looking Stupid...

Ditto on watching the auction sites. 2 weeks ago there was a 67 1/2 SK "Black Beauty", 55#,  on the 'bay that the seller had drilled the back side of the riser to mount a quiver, which destroyed the collectability of the bow but I bet it was a sweet shooter. It went for what a new Samick Sage goes for. Wrong-handed for me, but I should have bid ,anyway.

I've adopted too many bows that needed a good home.
