....but I can't fault him for not coming.
His grandparents where up from Florida and it was their last day here, so he wanted to spend the time with them....so I went out myself.
I knew from some trail cam video that there was a couple does that were pretty regular in the evening at a spot that I'd set a ladder stand a week earlier. But the main reason I was there was because I also had trail cam vid's of what is easily the biggest buck I've ever seen around here...a truly incredible deer of a lifetime! But that's hopefully another story, for another day...
I also wanted a little warm up for and "epic" hunt in Missouri coming up with my buds Terry Green, Tracy "KSTRAPPER" Potter, KennyM, and Charlie Lamb!
I have some great video of all facets of this hunt, but that's for another day as well...
I'll make this quick now....
After an extremely relaxing 1 1/2 hrs. on stand, a small doe just showed up about 20yds to my left. She got a little squirrelly just before heading out into the apple orchard I was set up by.
As she stood trying to figure things out, I saw another deer behind her....I figured it was the big doe that was the regular partner on the trail cam.
Soon the little doe decided she wasn't going into the orchard, instead headed along on the trail that would lead her right in front of my stand.
As she closed in, for some reason she she bolted across in front of me. Then I could see the big doe coming...
She stopped right in front of me 15 yds. away....the big VPA took her high tight behind the shoulder and disappeared!
I little high, but I knew it was good as she jetted on her flat out death run!
A bit later I was on the ground and found 3/4 of my arrow and first blood....

Knowing the absolute H#!! hole she ran into, I was gonna need help...I went home to get Cade...
We got back and blood trailed and soon found her, cade had the video rolling...good stuff!!
She's a big ol tank doe!!

We had talked about not finding the fletch end of the arrow. I figured I'd go back after the season to find it....but soon found this...it was still sticking through both lungs..

250 gr. 1 1/4" VPA's are wicked!!

Self filming is really tough, but the video is pretty cool!!
