I'm tired of going back and forth between my recurves and longbows. lol.  What I would like to try is a compromise - a hybrid. I would like to have is recurve handle cut to center or even past and R/D longbow limbs in a takedown package. who makes such an animal? I am aware of Schafer (out of my price range) and Stalker, but I'm sure there are many others. Anyone who owns or has owned such a bow, I would like to hear from you and a picture would be nice too. Thanks guys.  jeff

Jeff,

Take a look at this link from the classifieds.   http://tradgang.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=201;t=002209

I used to own a combo hunter, but I only had the recurve limbs.  I didn't like the grip, but obviously that just personal preference.  The bow was smooth, quiet and very high quality.  Unfortunately Mark Horne is no longer making bows, but I would not hesitate to buy another Horne's bow.  In fact if I could afford a back up bow I would buy one of his.

Jack Kempf Raven....will accept both recurve and longbow limbs with a recurve type riser.

You might check with Cory Engert with Heart Land Bows. Very affordable custom bow.

Bigfoot Sasquatch longbow, a hybrid the performs very well. He cut mine 1/8 past center. Kirk will put any grip you like on it. I sent Kirk a metal ilf riser with a custom wood grip I prefer and he matched it perfectly on this bow.

Stalker Stickbows are the way to go if you want a sweet hybrid. The Coyote model in particular.

Various bows, but if you see me shooting, it's probably a Toelke in my hand!

I can't think of too many current bowyers who don't make a hybrid longbow. Most will customize the grip if you can tell them specifically what you want.

I have an RER LXR that is a 3-piece (5 actually) with both recurve limbs and hybrid longbow limbs and I love the grip. I've had some very nice Holm Made hybrid longbows. My Lost Creek Judge is not for sale, even though it's right-handed and I'm now shooting lefty. Just picked up a used Kirk Lavender Yeti that acts much bigger than it is. Like I said, just about all the makers on this site except for those who build only Hill-type longbows make a good hybrid.

I'd start cruising the classifieds. There are several available there that would probably interest you and over the last 6 months there have been a bunch available at a price way below new price. It's definitely a buyers market right now.

There's a lot great ones to choose from but my favorites have been the Striker stinger and a close second being the toelke whip and I've shot a few.

My choice:  Get the ILF riser you like with a set of Centaur ILF limbs.

Bigfoot, Dryad, Morrison, Zipper, A&H, Eaglewing...all good choices.

Thunderstick MOAB is my favorite with recurve style grip but I don't know if Jim makes a takedown model.  60" bow,

Also, check out Timberghost! I absolutely LOVE my 1pc. Smoke, but the takedown has a bit more of the "recurve style" grip that you're looking for. Kent is a great guy also. You really can't go wrong with any of the previous suggestions, though.

I really like my Timberghost Smoke... Kent has a great product at a really fair price...

Also should mention you may want to hit Denton Hill and visit Mike Fedora and check out and shoot his hybrid. You won't be disappointed.
