I've done it. 300lbs boar in Georgia with a muzzy 125 gr head.  That is one of those replacement blade do hickeys.  All the way through at 7 yards. He went 9 yards a fell over.  He turned right at me and ran past me and fell over.

Total arrow weight seems fine. The head weight is just part of the equation.

Funny how the stuff that was normal decades ago and worked great now is thought to be totally inadequate.  All sorts of stuff has been killed for ages using that kind of set-up.  Certainly it will work--but only if the arrow is put in the right spot. Be sure your friend knows just where the vitals are located on a pig.  You can't shoot them as you would a deer--need to be more forward. Hope your friend gets you back to the old ways.    :bigsmyl:
The years accumulate on old friendships like tree rings, during which time a kind of unspoken care and loyalty accrue between men.

Will work fine in the right spot.  :campfire:

A good tune is way more important than high FOC! If that 510gr woody with a 125gr point is tuned well, and he can put it in the right place on the pig, he will have no problems with that set-up!

That wood arrow will probably work better than your carbon arrow. It has for over 50+ years.

I asked for help to revert him on carbon , not revert me on wood    :biglaugh:

HAHAHAHA

Milan!!! You had to know this would happen!

Anyway, thats basically the same setup I shoot but from a lighter weight bow and it worked fine on deer this year.

500gr arrow, 125gr head, 50# bow ... thats like the classic big game hunting setup ... your friend is fine ...

As much as I do like the wood arrows, I do miss the near indestructability of the carbon.

I think my next shafts will need to be ash or hickory or something if I'm staying with wood.

Bladepeek

As I posted on another thread, if you do not get total pass through, your carbons will not out-live your woodies. A 200 - 300 # pig rolling on a protruding arrow will in fact make it a 2-piece arrow wood, carbon, aluminum - doesn't matter   ;)

We call it "traditional bowhunting". Wood is pretty traditional.

Well , i have in my bow two strips fiberglas and one strip of carbon :-) . That is allot nontraditional materials . Carbon arrow is logical solution for me .
But , before couple days i was ordered on Osage selfbow . For that bow i will use some nasty woodies

Hi,

I see that you are from Serbia.  Is it possible to hunt with a bow over there?  Are there any restrictions?

Sorry for the trhead Hijack
